Love it. Simple as can be, but as you stated probably not going to happen. Committees, VP's, more studies, union approvals. Then all the crack pots with law suits thinking some form of discrimination.

The key here is people would have to know the radiance between aisle window or middle seat, then they have know how to count to 20 or more with out taking their shoes off.

The big deal is the over head space, last on now stand little chance of getting space and thus the 50 bucks charge for checked bags, so who's going to wait if it may cost them $50

also they would need a electronic tote board so you could see what is boarding now, not the POS microphones they use now

What really pisses me off is the people who board first, the ones sitting in the rear of the plane. Some of them stash their bags in the overhead bin in the front of the plane. So I, who book well in advance and get a seat towards the front of the plane, get on and there are no spaces left for my bag. I wish the FA's would monitor this and tell people not to deposit their bag till they hit their seat.

Of course, this is common sense but it ain't so common anymore.

The big problem not addressed in the article is how to board families with young Ch*ldren. Dad has the boarding passes and has to distribute them to the K*ds and Mom who are going to wait their turn to board.
The scheme may work for a bunch of single travelers.
Also as pointed out no one wants to get on last and find all baggage space taken up.

i still say the most plausible method to speed up boarding is enforcing carry-on regulations.

I agree completely.

I was one of the last to board a couple of weeks ago and the bins were full of backpacks and plastic bags... aka "the personal item". These phucking cheapstakes who don't want to pay $25 to check a suitcase bring a carry-on (bursting at the seams), a backpack/school bag filled with clothes and then either a plastic bag or a computer bag also filled with junk. That's like 3 carry-on's. And neither of the 2 personal items are able to fit under the seat.
