Dunn Inn should be good choice for you.
It is centrally located, and all you really want it for is a room.

The 'downturn' will not have much effect on your stay.

the train is the only issue for a monger. amistad is four times the hotel the dunn will ever be. i mean the review you posted is complaining about hookers. think you might resemble that remark
there are over 100 fantastic reviews for this hotel and matt and his hotel treat most of us like kings. same can't be said of dunn thats for sure.
but if its train noise you want to avoid then SL or HLH are also good options.

I am headed down in a few weeks.. looking for a nice place that wont show up like this
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... _Jose.html

Very basic rooms with cheap and limited bedding, furnishings and supplies. Bathrooms are dirty. Continuous noisy stream of residents bringing hookers to the hotel. Next to a busy train line with noisy trains and horns 24x7.

The Amistad is a fine hotel, it was completely remodeled and the rooms are in great shape. It was a former mansion, so it has lots of character, no two rooms are exactly alike. Yes, it's not a Hilton or Four Seasons, so ignore those Trip Advisor a-holes who only want that and hate prostitution as well. Listen to the monger reports. :D

The trains can be a problem for those who are light sleepers and don't want any disturbance in the mornning. It never bothered me, I always was able to go back to sleep. Getting a room on the side farthest away from the tracks also helps a bit.

I stay at the Dunn Inn about 6 times a year and the Staff and management have always been excellent over the years and I never had anything stolen in my room. PM me if you want details. Amistad is a good choice as well. I need to see what Boyd has done to the HLH since his takeover. Boyd I will be checking you out with my Wingman Paul Labor Day weekend, bringing my white glove, LOL!

I havent seen anything excuding the DI.... LA is out too high profile for me, so right now it's the DI or one other that was recomended that looks to be a little below grade for me but still on the list... HST

HLH, SL wold be my go to's except for the high profile.. e.g Google..... :-) maybe after the divorce...

Any Advice and opinion on how anyone else would react to this situation, would be appreciated.
