This is a new one for me.

I called Continental because my ticket was screwed up and I couldn't get it fixed online. Had to do with seating upgrade snafu.

Anyway, called the 800 number and a recording said, something to the effect..... "Due to the high call volume we cannot take your call at this time". Recording started giving me options, which basically were to have them call me back or for me to call at another time.

This is a new low......you would think with outsourced call centers the airlines could "at least put you on hold and play nice music".

I didn't have time for the call back and luckily I was able to fix the mess at the airport.

Raising the ticket prices has not improved customer service.

BTW... I told the story to a flight attendent in first class this morning and she said "I no longer defend Continental or United Airlines" she went on to say "your only seeing the beginning of the problems". I sensed the merger has a few upcoming bumps in the road.

I joined my continental and united points and together I almost have enough for a ticket.

Continental is gouging everyone and they are in cahoots with Taca and Copa. The recent fuel price increases do not justify a 3/4 price increase. As consumers, all we can do is not use them.

With all mergers the buyer has to get back money fast to cover the cash out lays, and in most cases to makeup for paying to much. This is done first with cuts to maintenance ( the problems this causes will not show up for a while) in the belief that the cuts will pay for them self's by freeing up money and create more income down ( sound familiar some where else????) and then by cutting employees, a big share of the variable expenses of any business. This can take many forms, getting rid of people, pay cuts, those are the big ones. But also even small cuts or what would appear to Management to be insufficient changes to employees can greatly affect their attitude.

In the case of the flight attendant she may had had routes that she did over and over and built her life around that work, not she finds herself flying a new route at times that keep her away from family and seeing no chance of change. Gee I wonder why she is pissed. She was on top, then after a lot of years she on the bottom again.

In super high level Management Schools, we where taught about doing that. Employees will adjust to any work load or schedule they have and build their life around that. Any change to that can and will build resentment that will affect job performance. So employees need to feel any changes that are made was done with their approval and better yet there idea

Example I used to have friends who worked 2nd,3rd shifts and loved it. And when forced to work 1st shift they were extremely unhappy and out of sync with there life and friends. Then changing back would take anther 3-4 weeks for them to get back into the swing of the late shifts. So the change back and forth never allowed them to enjoy there of time as there bod y was wanting to sleep when they were working or vice versa

Any ways bumps in the road ahead
