Bros: I connect through SJO next month, mid-week, mid-day (1400-1700hrs) enroute further south. I have 3.5hrs on the ground and wanna knock one out with a favorita. Brother BK offered his hospitality, and I really appreciate his offer, but the overland from Alajuela to centro probably won't work out, even if traffic was a breeze. Do any of you know of a ST motel close to SJO? Also, and less important, do you know if I will have to pay the exit tax if I leave the area beyond immigration and return to the airport a couple of hrs later? Tax isn't a big deal...just a hassle... PVT..you might just be the guy to help me out with this... CH |

Quite a few hotels close to the airport, mainly around Denny's but don't know of any that are short-time. We may be able to work out something... PM me ![]() |

CH, I'm fairly sure you will have to pay your departure tax once you have passed through immigration and costoms. Sounds like you will have a tight timeline. I'd like to hear a mini trip report on this adventure. Firedude |

Firedude: This should be fun...and quick.. I spoke with her just now...she is looking for places nearby (timing is everything). I don't post a lot of trip reports, but if I pull this one off, I'll post it. CH |

Just a thought, if you are going to be further south and leave the airport, you may need to prove you had a Yellow Fever shot at some point in your trip. Might want to take along your proof to prevent a forced change in travel plans at the last minute by the airport coppers. |

Xman00: I appreciate the concern, but where I'm going, I won't need the Y fever shot...S.C,U.B.A. gear to keep out all the volcanic ash would be more appropriate. I found a ST motel in Alajuela...my question is: Do any of you bros know of a short time motel near the airport? Any recommendations? I really appreciate the offers from a couple of bro's, but I'll really be constrained on time, as I cannot miss the bird south. Thanks, CH |

ST near airport may be very hard to find, one Canadian tried to do that with his hotel and was shot down. Ticos may tolerate prostitution, but they don't like it in their backyard. That being said, there always seem to be places not well known to gringos that cater to this. |
