In Jan, I just sat in the back near the large open window - not comfortable, and really chilly!

I am trying to find more places that are cigar friendly in San Jose. I know you can smoke everywhere in the HLH, and you can smoke in one section of the bar at the SL. And the HDR now allows cigar smoking (but I don't think I ever want to stay there, although I go there to drink, eat and go on patrol). Any else that I'm missing? |

I have found, Pax, that most places will allow cigars - the res't across from the Presidente, does not allow them (so I don't eat there), but the bar at the Prez does, especially if you sit by the rail. Even when HDR banned cigars, you could smoke 'em at Key Largo. Harry's Bar Poas allows, as does the former Dos Gringos, as does the Morizon bar/rest (but not at lunch - wierd!) - The Hotel Nacional does not allow cigars in the res't - I don't spend a lot of time there, so not sure about their bar! If I'm in a small area, like a soda, I will not even think about lighting up. Be interested in what others have to say and their suggestions of CF (Cigar friendly) places. |

I have been to that little bar at the Prez and sat by the rail when smoking cigars. I know where Bar Poas and Dos Gringos is, but not where the Morizon bar is. |

Its on the 2nd floor of the Hotel Morazon - you have likely passed it many times; its 1 block from the HDR. Not a bad place; no real reason to seek it out unless you are staying there, which I do when in SJ. |

Other smokers if not "in the face of food consumers" are loosely enforced "if you know what I mean" We can work together to make it good for "ALL" I do not like rules & policies, just trying to make as many people happy as possible. A designated enclosed room for cigar smokers is a must for a lot of non smokers...one of the reasons we don't eat at many of the aforementioned places. And yet they still banned them - prime example of what you just said was the cigar lounge at Smith and Wolensky in South Beach (Mia Bch FL - across from Joe's Stone Crab) - it was a SEPARATE room, sealed off - and you still can't smoke there - I'm all for compromises - but to me if i own a bar or re'st - I should be able to set policy - as should another business person who does not want to allow smoking. Personally, with todays technology, we could accomodate both - years ago I was in the Club Macanudo in Washington DC w/ my wife who, to put it mildly, does not like cigars (understatement of the year) - she loved the place; same w/ Nat Shermans in NYC - was no "smoke" or real heavy cigar smell - its all in the eq and the planning. Not a shot at you, but those on the other side don't want accomodation, or compromise, they want all smoking banned. There's some natural shelter there so any breeze is usually quite gentle. I love that area. I sit there all the time, even when not smoking, and that's where our group was for superbowl. SR I'll trade w/ you Srilm - you sit back there and I'll sit on the couches near the bar! (With a cigar, of course!)

I'll take your word for it, but many times there, as recently as mid Jan, I've smoked in the res't/table area in the back - no one said a word; in fact just brought me a larg(er) ashtray! Don't put up the "no cigars" signs in the back (like the bullshit until recently at HDR) - point taken. |

Well I'm going to make my first visit to Bar Poas when I return next week. It may be a great spot for me to hang out as a cigar smoker, time will tell. I'll give it a shot. |

I like the place a lot - good food, decent prices, friendly service - and as i mentioned, if cigars are in the bar area only, no big deal - but I was never hassled smoking in the back area
