Wow. I am shocked to hear about BK and the Dunn. I booked my May trip there and was really pumped to stay there and check out the new casino, etc. Both of my trips to CR have been made better by meeting and hanging with BK.

So how is the Clarion? Has anyone stayed there recently? Do they have internet? phones? airport pickup? are the rooms nice? A/C? clean? how is the food/bar? chica fee?

Are they going to start letting chicas back in the casino?

Anyway I hope things work out well for Boyd and congrats on the new arrival.
I am also considering just going back to Amistad as well.

Opinions on Clarion?

Clarion is nice. On-site casino is convenient. It's not my style exactly -- a little too hotel-ish for me, but definitetly clean, nice and convenient to all the usual haunts.

I have the same impression of the Clarion / Amon Plaza as well. It's a nice hotel, but never really interested me as a place to stay in SJ.

No chica fee for CRT members, girls are welcome in the casino. I can arrange airport pickup for guests. The rooms are nice and big.

One thing I noticed at the Clarion is there are not many mongers staying there. My stay there was often punctuated by foreign tourists staring me down as I took a hottie back to my room. Not that I really give a shit, but if you do, it may unnerve you. Plus, the accommodations were pretty run down. Hot water was out for a good part of my stay, and the first time I touched the tap in my shower, it came off the wall in my hand.

I only stayed there once, and it was almost two years ago. Maybe things have changed there by now.

No disrespect to the Clarion. It's a fine place. I get to stay in my fair share of Hiltons and Holiday Inns, so when the opportunity arises to stay in something a little different, I do it. SL has always felt like home more than a hotel. Hotel St. Marie in New Orleans is another good pick.

SR

I totally get what he's saying. I was there for most of the conversion period at the DI (eco-tourist to monger-friendly) but it's charm was that it was always a boutique hotel--quirky in a good way, as converted coffee-trader mansions will be (think the original La Amistad, the Hemingway, etc.).

The Clarion has reserved the 28 rooms on the second floor for our business. Cancellation policy is 24 hours and your credit card is verified at check in but not charged until check out. Also, to be clear my role is as a marketing and promotions person. I am not currently involved in the casino or bar there. I will typically not be on site but am in the area virtually every day. I am available for any assistance that guys who book through me need. My local hone is 8896-5536 and my email is boyd_burton@yahoo.com.

Laura Ballestros the General Manager of the Clarion is also available to help. She is a wonderful person who speaks perfect English. Any issues at the front desk use her name as a reference and/or call me.

Speaking for myself only--this gets printed, cut out and laminated as a wallet card. We may have an equal friend in CR (Bill @ the SL) but we don't have a better one.

BTW all the praise I heaped on the DI these last 2 years? I don't take back a word (the staff top to bottom is wonderful ,the venue magnificent) but I'm bound to say the Boyd made the place hop and the reason I stayed there. In his absence...

Well I'm still going to frequent the DI, no disrespect, but I have a long term friendship with Karol that may turn into something more someday, so I love to be near her. And I just found out she left the SL and is now at the DI.
