U.S. Embassy Warden Message (Weather related)

Dear American Citizens:

This warden message is being issued to alert U.S. citizens residing and
traveling in Costa Rica that heavy rainfall over the last several days
has caused flooding and landslides throughout the country, resulting in
damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure. This includes
closure of the road to the popular tourist destination of Manuel
Antonio/Quepos.

While there have been a number of confirmed casualties, the Embassy has
not received any reports of any American deaths or missing Americans.
U.S. citizens in Costa Rica or travelers with plans to visit in the
country over the next few days should closely monitor local and
international media reports. Visitors should review and follow their
hotel evacuation plans, and U.S. citizens should make preparations in
the event that communications, power, and transportation systems are
affected.

The Embassy will continue to monitor the situation and will issue
updated messages. U.S. citizens should carry their travel documents at
all time (i.e. U.S. Passport, Birth Certificate, picture ID's, etc.) or
secure them in safe, waterproof locations. The Embassy strongly
encourages that U.S. citizens contact friends and family in the United
States with updates about their whereabouts.

Spoke with Budget rent a car there today, the main road to the beach from downtown is passable, one side fixed by El Mirador so only one direction at a time there which I think is on the slope so don't rent any standard shifts.
