Spirit has a flight from Ft. Lauderdale to SJO that leaves at 11:30 PM and arrives at 1:19 AM. But, get this...they also have a flight from SJO to Ft. Lauderdale that leaves at 2:09 AM and arrives at 5:54 AM. Who would want to take that 2:09 AM flight? What advantages would that have, or what circumstances would warrant that? They must have enough people flying then to make it worth it. |

If you checked out of your hotel, say around noon, you would have to store your luggage somewhere prior to heading to the airport around 11:30 PM. I suppose some hotels might store your luggage for half a day, perhaps for a small fee/propina. |

I would think the baggage is the least of the worries. You are going to have to go to MPs or an hourly "hotel" for options if you check out of your room. Might not be a bad option if you are going to be out of SJ on your last day. You could spend all day a la playa and still make the flight home. |

I took it once, due to the suspension of Mexicana flights. I had taken 2 Frontier overnights to CR and slept 3-4 hours, had direct TV on the back of the seat. Spirit Air seating was worse than a Costa Rican bus seat, the flight was full, and the lights kept on. Plus there wasn't enough time scheduled to catch my connecting flight to Chicago. So I had to wait another 9 hours for the next flight in the FLL airport. I will state that all my red-eye flights were full, and considerably cheaper than other flights (50% cheaper). Price is the reason for me. I'll fly the Frontier flight again, but will avoid the Spirit flight unless I have no choice. |

That flight is actually a really good resource for people in south Florida. It allows you go get in a quick trip to the CR with out having to take any "vacation" time. Leave after work on Friday. When you get in to San Jose you can catch the late night scene, on the first night. Then you have all day Saturday and Sunday. Then get to the airport late Sunday night. Sleep on the plane and arrive early Monday morning. You'll get out of customs around 6 am, so you have time to shower and get breakfast, before going to work. |
