Lawyer is most likely not going to due anything except take some money for you. She has to call a 900 for an appointment, think that is $14.00, then they will tell her the date and how much non refundable fee to deposit in the bank. See then will see a counselor official who will say yea or nay. The main concern they have is that she will return to CR and not overstay her visa in the U.S. They will look for things that indicate she will return like employment history, long term bank account history, family ties, etc. There is nothing a lawyer can do to change those requirements in fact I do not believe you or a lawyer is allowed to be with her when she is interviewed.

And to add to what ID said:

If she is under 40-45 and single, and does not own a home or business here, is not leaving more than one minor Ch*ld here, and does not have a substantial amount of money in the bank here, SHE AIN'T GETTING A VISA!!!!! That is unless she is a member of a upper class wealthy family with some influence or pull here!!!!

A few years ago a 39 yo friend who worked for the Womens rights consul of Costa Rica was going to an international conference on womens right in Washington DC. She did not own a home nor business, had no minor Ch*ldren, very little money in the bank, and was single. At her interview she handed the guy her papers, he looked at them and stamped the aplication "REJECTED". He never looked up, never asked her a single question, never any explanation. It almost cost her her job!

as with most things in san jose .....last year while I was at the DR and playing cards a girl I have seen on most trip's (never went with her) she is a working girl and someone posted her photo and got good reviews but as we are sitting and playing Myself and a few other guys are talking about florida and she asks me what part am I from....I tell her tampa and she says "next weekend I am going to tampa to see some band play at Tampa stadium " I was shocked as I had heard about it on T.V. and got to talking more and I did my best to try to hook up with her but with my job and I think her gringo bf who was paying for the trip we just didnt find a day that would work for us to hook up. Any way as bang bang said ...the more I think about it ....she said she didnt have any Babi*s ....she had told me she had money (as I watched her turn a few guys away) I wish I remembered her name as she is one of a kind girl....and a blast to hang out with ....I look for her on my trip's but did see her on my last trip but only for a few mins...she must have something going on as she said my next time in Florida we will hook up...wish I had more to offer but if I knew her name she would be a good info source for your gf

My findings tell me that it can be a real help to contact your local congressman and have them contact the embassy in advance. Doubt that will work for just a visit for a girlfriend.

Are we talking for a visit or to move to the US? When you say "paper work" it makes me think that you are talking about a more permanent visa.

If it's for a tourist visa (the above posts nail it). Unless she can show "substantial ties" to Costa Rica (a good reason to return), she's probably not going to get it. You'll just be wasting about $150 in fees.

If it's for a more permanent arrangement, you should look at this forum. They have lots of free info. http://www.visajourney.com

BTW--you don't need a lawyer in either case. Lawyers (or more like their secretaries) tend to Phuck up the paperwork pretty often and then it takes twice as long and costs more to fix the mess.

What you might consider is finding a city like Philly that has something of a Tico community and working with that knowledge. It establishes something of a basis for visiting, a lily pad for the lady to jump to and maybe to hold accountable for legal purposes. Cousins with different last names, solid folks from the old neighborhood, etc now well-established in the city. Has she had some college and is now invited to attend a local college/university? There's always a freighter trip north with the Captain (a Malaysian Muslim) performing the marriage. I don't have to be more explicit, do I?

Lawyers are most likely not, unless you take some money due anything. Nothing requires a lawyer to change that fact, I do not believe you or your lawyer can not with her, she is interviewed. You visa can be a financing lawyer, but it is not really necessary.

Much do I like the quotes in your ad disguised as a tagline. I see you are working on your English--keep at it--it'll come in time. BTW, which attorney are you? Never mind, it's naughty of me to ask.

http://www.visajourney.com is a good site to get you started, and then reference this site: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis to make sure the information and forms you are using are up-to-date. I agree with Orange, you do not need a lawyer to complete this paperwork... nevertheless, gathering all the documents and obtaining the required certifications can be a pain in the butt. I just went through the process a year ago with my novia and succeeded without the "assistance" of an attorney.
