Holy crap!

Makes you wonder about some of these pilots. Once, I was on an AA flight to CR connecting in Miami, we're on our final approach, the weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky & suddenly, the whole plane dropped about 200-300 feet with no warning. Passengers are freaking out, but they just landed the plane & never offered a word of explanation.

^The aircraft got caught in either a Micro burst, wind shear or wake turbulence... Nothing the pilot can do in those cases except fly the airplane... I've had it happen to me countless times and can always count on it at certain airports & runway headings...

As far as the OP, it happens more often than you would like to think... What surprised me after watching the interview was that the controller was notified by another pilot holding short on 13R that the AeroGal airplane was lining up for 13R and not 13L... Only then did tower control alert the AeroGal flight to abort the landing and go around... There is a gap in coverage when an arriving flight hands-off from approach control to tower control... A lot of assumptions are made that all parties know what they are doing... In this case, the pilot obviously got confused on which runway he was supposed to land on or was not familiar with the airport environment... This can happen, especially at night...

Yeah, a couple of years ago at Newark, some jackass landad on a taxiway instead of the runway at night. How that wasn't a catastraphe nobody knows. :shock:

Speaking of air safety, here's a list of all air accidents in 2010. DAMN! I thought we made a lot of safety improvements to where these things were rare. I count 20. I know it's a small percentage in the grand scheme of things, but being on one of those planes could ruin your day.

Ok what about the wrong Airport :o ???? That is even a bigger catastrophe waiting to happen. I have not read or heard about this for a while now, but in the 1980's there was two airports in South or North Dakota that line up perfectly, same every thing, except for the 10 miles or so apart . And about once a year some one was landing at the wrong Airport, even under following the directions of the tower. This was happening to even experienced pilots who had flown into the place many times. With the right conditions the 10 miles just went off into never never land.
Now as I remember it, one of the airports was a SAC base, but not a bomber field ( I do know the fly boys were involved some how and they were not happy) .And the boys in Blue just did not think it was as much as joke as those of us who do not pilot planes, and they took exception to some using their own private runway. And the runaway was not long enough to for the civilian plane to take off. So they had to clear stuff with everyone AF and FAA ,special crew to take back off and some Grey Hounds to haul the passengers to the Right airport.
Have net heard about this since maybe 1990 or so, they mast have fixed what ever was causing the problem. Maybe one you plane duds can remember more of the details???

But on the funny side, can you imagine the AT at the right field after talking down a plane and the pilot reporting a perfect landing and now taxing off, and the AT can see Nothing on the field !!!! :lol: Now that is a Master Card Moment

I'll never fly Aerogal again. I was on one of their flights this Spring from the Galapagos to Guayaquil. We had plenty of time for meal service, but the twit flight attendants dilly dallied about shutting down meal service. When they realized that we were touching down in less than five minutes, they tried grabbing food trays and meal carts, but they ran out of time. When we touched down food trays started cascading off still opened tray tables and one of the food service carts was rolling around unsecured and hitting buklheads. Some passengers thought it was funny. I did not. If we had to make an emergency exit, nobody would have been able to get past the open food trays, spilled food in the aisles and food service cart that was blocking one exit. These idiots must have traded bj's with
airline brass to get their jobs. But, they were the cutest incompetents I've ever seen in Stewardess suiits:) Looks like their pilots aren't much better.
