According to their website, they will continue flying, but have suspended ticket sales. 1. I’m booked on a Mexicana flight. Are there any changes? On Wednesday, August 4, at 18:00 hours, Mexicana Airlines (CompañÃa Mexicana de Aviación) suspended its ticket sales. However, Mexicana Airlines announced it will continue operations as scheduled in the interest of protecting passengers whom already have tickets and flight itineraries. 2. I am flying in from abroad with another airline and have a connecting flight with Mexicana. Can I expect any changes? No, all domestic and international flights continue to operate as scheduled and itineraries remain unchanged. 3. Can I still book flights? MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink continue to operate, market and sell tickets for all of their flights. Reservation and issuing of tickets for flights operated by Mexicana Airlines (CMA) have been suspended indefinitely. However, Mexicana Airlines (CMA) will continue flying in the interest of protecting passengers who already have tickets and flight itineraries. 4. Is there any reason to be concerned about flight safety? Not at all! The safety of its passengers is a priority for Mexicana Airlines and its permanent commitment to ensuring the integrity of its operations is reiterated. Bear in mind that Grupo Mexicana operates one of the most reputed, trusted and demanded maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services in worldwide. Not only do we service our own aircraft, but we render world-class maintenance services to many other airlines. All our flights comply with the most stringent safety requirements. |

Thanks Orange, hope your family makes it back safely and Popovich (nice to see a local Hoosier make good) doesn't have to make a visit until October. I knew my $80 fare ORD - SJO was too good. Bummer was that American matched the fare right after I bought my ticket on Mexicana. |

Mexicana has suspended the flight from Cancun to SJO, so any connections through Cancun are no good any longer. My great $237 fare for labor day weekend turned out to be too good to be true. I suspect that all Mexicana flights will be suspended within a week or two. The Mexicana domestic side of their operation which they were counting on to provide operating revenue is now also shutting down, so with no money for things like fuel it is unlikely they can continue past a few more days. |

I am flying tomorrow to CR from LAX with a stop in Mexico City with Mexicana. Today's flights were delayed all over but dont know if that was weather related. Anyway... on Friday I was supposed to take the nonstop flight to Cancun at 1pm and now they had to put me on American Airlines at 7am! With a stop in Miami! How freaking lame is that! |

I just got off the phone with Mexicana. I booked a return trip with another airline when they suspended one of their two flights to San Jose from Mexico City. They refused to get me a credit for the unused portion, since my flight was not cancelled. In order to get a credit for the unused portion, it would cost me $150, more than the unused portion. I have a trip booked in September. I guess it is off to the credit card company to dispute the charges. The news is not good. They have stated that future ticket sales are suspended indefinitely, so no new revenues, ... |

I have noticed airfares on continental and AA creep up a bit ($30) from Chicago since the announcement. Mexi might have kept them in check. Dean |

The pilots and crew are talking with Mexicana again so there may be a glimmer of hope. Nothing like the imminent thereat of losing your job to stimulate conversation. US Air has a $258 fare, ORD-SJO. I'm booking an American Award flight to cover my Sept 13th Mexicana ticket. The American award is only 30,000 miles and Delta can be had for 35,000. |

What's strange is that the flight suspensions (they were not canceled permanently) are only from Aug 9 to Aug 31. So if you are travelling after 8/31, they consider that as a confirmed reservation. http://cmainforma.com/ |

Mexicana has completely shut down. Quote: Struggling Mexicana airline halting all operations
Associated Press MEXICO CITY -- Debt-ridden carrier Mexicana airline is halting all operations as of midnight Friday as it seeks to restructure costs, Mexico's transportation secretary said. The country's biggest airline was forced to shut down because it does not have enough money to keep flying, Juan Francisco Molinar Horcasitas told reporters. But Mexicana da Aviacion ``is in a process that should lead to restructuring,'' he said. The airline filed for bankruptcy protection in Mexico and the United States on Aug. 2, and later stopped selling tickets and suspended some flights. In court filings, Mexicana said it was badly hit by the swine flu outbreak last year that scared away travelers for months and by the global economic slowdown. The airline added that high jet fuel prices and labor costs contributed to its financial troubles. Before the bankruptcy filing, the company unsuccessfully sought union agreement on pay cuts of 41 percent for pilots and 39 percent for flight attendants, along with a 40 percent reduction in employees, saying both were needed to keep the company afloat. Labor leaders rejected the proposal, saying their members already agreed to cuts in 2006. Executives said this month that the company needed an infusion of at least $100 million to keep flying, and on Aug. 21 a group of Mexican investors called Tenedora K announced it had bought a 95 percent stake in the holding company that controls Mexicana and the domestic airlines Mexicana Click and Mexicana Link. Mexicana flies to more than 65 national and international destinations, including the United States, Canada, Central America, South America and Europe. It transported 11.1 million passengers in 2009, according to the company's website Read more: http://www.miamiherald.com/2010/08/27/1 ... z0xuKckWyG |

Here's more on this including the members of Tenedora K. The pilots union bought the remaining 5% stake. If Tenedora K includes Carlos Slim and because of the pilots union investment, expect Mexican to be flying again sooner rather than later: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-08-2 ... iling.html |
