Any members stay at the Courtyard or Residence Inn in Escazu? -A preference one over the other? I understand it's not the best location, but still considering. Mucho gracias! G |

I like the Marriott. They have never hassled me about chicas. It is walking distance to the Multiplaza Mall, The Jazz Cafe and the plaza close has decent nightlife and restaurants (there is a little bistro with the best coffee and pancakes in San Jose). Pure Vida OldQDog |

Pure Vida OldQDog Agree with Q Dog here. Nice hotel, good restaurants and bars very close and the Mall like you mentioned. Make no mistake however, this is not a mongering hotel per se. I suspect you will have to pay a little more to get chicas from the Gulch there, not to mention cab fare to and from. If you are taking a favorita/ novia, good choice, if not there are many many others for "hobbying". |

Thanks for replies, I am planning on going to a spanish school in Escazu. Then in the evenings travel to the gulch. I keep things pretty low key and stay behaved. In my experience, Marriott properties are no problem as long as you are discrete. In the past I've stayed at the Presidente, Sportsman's, Aurola, DR, Morazan, Corobici but this is my first time in Escazu. My last trip I stayed at the Corobici which I enjoyed. G |

It seems that some member know the Marriott Courtyard and thank you for your comments. There is also a newer Marriott hotel called the Residence Inn in the same local, so just curious if anyone has stayed at this new one? It may not be in quite as good of a location. I've also heard there is construction in the area, so any comments on this hotel most appreciated. G |

I stayed at the Residence Inn on my last trip. Its a well built and quite hotel despite the construction. The rooms have new styled furniture with modern appliances such as stainless steel refrigerators, dishwashing machines and flat screen TVs. Free breakfast in the morning and complimentary dinner on Wed. and Thurs. The staff is multi-lingual and don't give you a hard time about anything. I even experienced my first earthquake there and still felt very safe. They also offer free shuttle vans to Multi Plaza and Plaza Itskatzu. There's a nice pool on the second floor. Definitely prefer the RI over the Courtyard even though its a little more expensive. |

Gordob123--You say you're attending a Spanish language school, which implies an extended stay. May I ask what monthly rates you were quoted at those 2 venues? And what school and how you came to choose it? I am most def' not questioning your choices or recommending alternates, though others might. |

The school I looked at is Ileri in San Miguel de Escazú, $200 for a week. G |

How far away are these hotels from Ileri? 10 minutes? They told me the school is "very close" to the hotels. Do you know of any other schools close to these hotels or other schools you might reccomend, maybe in Amón? Ileri is 4 hours a day and I"m SJO for 2 weekends,,,,, so I have a bit of time for other things too. ![]() many thanks, G |

This Thread having been already thoroughly but charmingly hijacked---Some Brothers in the past have reported that CRLA is a good school. Here's their Website: http://www.amerisol.com/costarica/edu/crlang.html I believe most good schools offer amenities like cooking and dancing classes in their packages. |

I also went to CRLA a couple of years ago. I went for 6 hrs/day for two weeks. They can accomodate all levels. Thought it was a great experience, also close to the gulch, I believe it was about a 1000 colone taxi ride. noq |

I've stayed at many hotels in the gulch but this time I want to stay in Escazu. They told me Ileri is 5-10 minutes from these hotels which is close enough. Thanks everyone for the info! G |
