Just curious if anyone has heard if the hotel will re-open, either as a Clarion or something else? I have many fond memories in that hotel and it always served as a GREAT back-up close to the action when everything else was full.

It was open as of Memorial Day Weekend...unless my eyes decieved me while walking over to Dunn Inn happy hour.

Could be.....I just heard it had been closed down, and possibly lost their franchise with Clarion. I have not been to SJO in about a year, and not heard anything more recently.

It was open when I was in town 11 to 15 June.

I see it shows back up as an available hotel on the choice website. It was not there the last time I looked. Maybe I misunderstood what had transpired.......

No, you weren't wrong in thinking they might have gone under. They were under severe tax pressure but CR being CR, evidently they, um, "worked it out". Long term though might be a crap-shoot (no pun intended). I understand there was at least one terrific group of investors interested in the place--pity they didn't prevail--would have given new life, new meaning to that whole block. Oh well.

Keep in mind if staying there, in Feb./Mar 2010 they implemented a $24 chica fee for even those who booked the room thru Nixon in the casino. Like you, I have good memories/experiences of my 8 stays at the Clarion and would like to stay there again. They do not get my business any more as a result of the chica fee. La Amistad now has another satisfied customer.

Agreed.....While it was not a deal breaker for me, I certainly would stay elsewhere w/o chica fee before there. But it was ALWAYS a good back-up that allowed me to book cheap airfare knowing I had a room. If I found something better, I'd move as it was easy to cancel or revise the reservation on-line. 50% of the time I didn't find something better and ended-up staying there. I will have my first La Amistad stay for Halloween weekend. Looking forward to seeing what all the "buzz" is about!
