Had dinner at the Capital Grill there August of last year (great food and view and very pricey). Never stayed there - looked nice but seemed like they were having problems. I will leave the better answers to the experts.

Peace,

DR

Very pricey as Don Rico said. They due have a $12.95 USDA prime rib dinner on Thursday night but I would assume that price does not include the 23% tax & service charge. If you are interested you must make reservations (2288-6362) to ensure they have enough prime rib.

As to chica friendly I have never heard from anyone who has stayed there but I would assume they are as some working girls go there and there was a porno filmed there.

Players casino located there has big sports events on their TV's and usually feature a drink special. For example during the Stanley Cup they have 2 x 1 beer special while the game is on.

...You can scratch the helicopter ride from them.

Never been there... have been out that way a few times
Remember there are short time "love hotels" in San Jose near the action ... might save you some cab fare... How much is a cab ride round trip from the White House???
Also many CRT hotels have arooms for around 50 bucks
Have fun :D

I had the same thought. I think what he was trying to say would have been a bit clearer if he had included another period after the "great view. totally awesome.". In fact, it also wouldn't have hurt to maybe even start a new paragraph before following that with "A couple of guys washing the Hummer" to make it clearer he was beginning a new thought rather than actually make it sound like he was getting off watching a couple of guys washing their "hummer". Not to get on his case for lax grammar in his post or anything but that really goes to show how important careful use of punctuation can be sometimes.

@ Don Rico, what hotel in the area isn't having their share of problems right now (other than, of course, a few of the CRT favorites)? OTOH, I believe this property has had more than its share of problems going back to when it used to be called the Tara Resort Hotel and maybe even before that.

@JB, I'm assuming that some of our readers probably didn't understand your oblique reference to the White House helicopter since some, including the orginal poster, apparently don't know much about this hotel. What JB was referring to was that they used to offer helicopter charter services to customers, but about a year ago(?) their copter crashed in the mountains south of SJ while it was evidently involved in a drug smuggling run. You can read the details of the incident here: http://costaricaticas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=28412

Brother Prolijo is being too kind. I was at my obscurantist too-hip navel-gazing finest with that. Sorry, gang.

It is a great place to stay. The owners are cool, the bar is awesome, and so is the restaurant. They have a spa facility on site, and used to have a helicopter. I don't know if they got a new one. Service is excellent. You really feel like a guest at a friend's house. Not for the budget traveller though. The restaurant may have the best food, certainly steaks, in CR, but easily over $200 for dinner for 2. Free wifi also. Amazing view of the city.

Chica friendly, absolutely. You will have no problems there. There is even some talent there, usually pricier at about $200. My only gripe is that it is too far from the Gulch action, approx. a $10-$12 cab ride for about 20 minutes. They have car services which I have used, they have an Escalade and Hummer Limo. I don't know about the Hummer but the Escalade was about $150-$200 for a night out with a very reliable ENglish speaking driver.

I hope this helps.

PURA VIDA!

I tried to get some answers and just could not get responses to questions from The White House so I am staying elsewhere as it turns out.

Totally awesome was in reference to the view from the hotel grounds. I am a sh*tty typewriter and sometimes unable to express my thoughts

Consider this--GENTLE teasing is a measure of acceptance. If you weren't for real, we'd either rip you to shreds (and believe me, that can happen) or ignore you completely.
