The lobby gets really smokey at night due to the doors being closed. I stayed in a Jr. Suite for $90 w/tax. on the fifth floor. The safes are keyed which I don't like. No sense having to keep up with a safe key. The elevator goes out a few hours a day. It has always taken me 3 trips to the front desk to get a remote that works for the TV. Once there was no water for 24 hours ![]() |

I`ve stayed there a couple times and liked it.the location is great but you can have trouble with your reservation if you arrive late in the day on a weekend. But having stayed at the Freebird which is a very good location two blocks from the DR , I would recommend staying there instead. |

From Greengos's description, the Hotel Morazan sounds like a semi-backwards 3rd World country's capital today or maybe CR 30 years ago; I.E. my kinda place. Remind me to check it out in July. And why wasn't it mentioned to the guy that was looking for older Chicas last month? Shocking slippage in standards. |

I like the location, but I have been told the rooms smell of cigarette smoke. I know I am being a sissy but I am nonsmoker. Do you know if all rooms have mini frig? How about two bedroom suites available.....I am traveling with a buddy and we have partyed together before and have had a great time. I will be SJ for eight (8) nights and I guess i could move to another hotel if I don't like the Morazan but when I set up "camp" I dont like to move. Again sorry for beating this subject to death and I know its just a f..... room. Thanks so much brothers for all your coments and suggestion. |

Tag, in case you missed it, CalDude was being sarcastic with his last post. The NJ maybe dirt dirt cheap but it is also worlds away in terms of quality and location. I have stayed at the Morazon several times but that was years ago (when they were still honoring the "Soprano Discount" - another inside joke). IMHO, it had its share of problems even back then but, for my needs, the rooms and facilities always met my needs. On my last stay, my biggest gripe was the elevators doors that would slam closed after 2 seconds crushing anyone not entering or exiting the elevator quickly enough. Presumably, they've fixed that problem since then but who knows. OTOH, the place had also been recently renovated when I stayed there and I'd imagine the rooms and other areas really have become a bit more worn down in the ensuing years. Of course, the one thing that we know that hasn't changed, the location right next door to the HDR and KL, should still be a huge plus for most guys. However, IMHO, probably the BIGGEST change of all since the time I stayed there is in their rates. For the longest time they had a special rate of just $35/nt. Add that to the great location and it was something very hard to beat. Unfortunately, they did away with that discount program (about a year ago?) leaving you with only their standard rates (~$50/nt for std rms) and that seems just a bit too high to me for that room quality even with the great location. YMMV. |

I know I making a big deal out of nothing, but so many of you guys have great info I thought I would just ask for recommendations. I really think it is best to stick to CRT endorsed places. I want to stay at the SL but the only rooms available are in the courtyard. So I will try for the Castillo, La Amsted, Freebird. I just want to have a good time and relax. I love CR. I will arrive on June 10 and stay for eight nights......I just can't wait for June 10 to get here. Oh btw if your wondering why I am so anal, I'm a tax accountant that should explain it all...cheers! |

Just an FYI, My credit card was compromised at Morazon about a year ago while gambling. Was staying at Castillo, wanted a couple extra bucks without going back to the safe. (This was the only time I used the card on the entire trip... and don't use it at home). They took the card, had to get "approval", as I was getting a large sum. They returned, I got my cash... life went on. I return home and the credit card company had called (left a message, I was still in CR) A Morazon employee (had to be), swiped my info... The next day they did a test charge of something like "$2" and it went through. They then attempted a charge of something like $700, the credit card company somehow flagged it, called my house. Since I didn't answer, they froze the charge + disabled my card... I just didn't know since I only used it that one successful time. Good work Credit Card company! They not only stopped the big charge, they gave me back the $2! Just a little warning... not sure which employee did this, whether the pit boss laid the card down and someone else swiped the info... Just good info to remember when you visit the Morazon. |

The Morazon is a good place to stay.I have stayyed there over 30 times over the last few years. The elevator has worked fine the last 3 years. No 2 bedroom suites and mini fridge but you can rent one for $40. The suites on the 5 floor are good size. Myself and 2 other CRT have them reserved for Memorial Day weekend.I always bring an air freshner or candle.I am sure if you book for a wek you can get a better rate. |

Post subject: | SMOKEY AZZ MORAZAN |
Stayed at the Morazon sporadically and more times then I care to admit on an as needed basis ... to the point where it is forever known between me and whomever I talk about it with as the "SMOKEY AZZ MORAZON". I just can not detach "smokey" from it. THE PLUSSES: 1. Location, Location, Location - No Taxi or armed guards needed...very short post up to nighttime activity at ground zero 2. Pricing was always in the $42 range with tax included (Before they incrementally went up the last few years) 3. Bar - Bar on 2nd floor (used to be in the lobby) which gives you local pricing ... Brought something like 8 beers, 1 long island ice tea, 1 rum & coke and a non-alcoholic drink when I was doing a little social entertaining and I believe I got out of there for about $30 ... All I know it was much cheaper then buying drinks at the DR or KL 4. Over the years the "girls" at the front desk have been plenty friendly and helpful THE MINUSES: 1. The Big Fat Ricky Ricardo looking dude who maybe the boss (Jefe) there. I understand there in the business to make money, but this guy is one of the most annoying if not thee most annoying figure in San Jose in my 6 years of travel there. He always has his hand out. will always try to find a way to escort you to your room for a tip when you check in. He has offered to take my "laptop bag" upstairs for me so I can tip him. When I had no luggage he wanted to escort me upstairs with just the remote control to show me how to use it ![]() 2. SMOKEY!!!! Thats why I call it the "SMOKEY AZZ MORAZAN" ... Your room either smells like an ashtray or asstray lol ; or it smells like air freshner trying to cover up the smokey smell. If you don't like smoke, dont even think about doing anything in the casino. 3. Be careful...not that there are many glorious views...but be careful that you dont get a room facing into a brick wall giving you that dungeon feel 4. I never had a problem with security, but I was always curious to the cleaning crew leaving multiple doors open on a floor as they clean and they are no where to be found. Not exactly what I want to see coming back up to my room and the door being wide open and nobody around but it has happened on more then one occasion. IN SUMMARY: I can see someone staying there based on location (everything at arms length) and price (budget) and if the smokeyness doesn't get to you. I have done it when I needed a room for 1 or 2 nights top and knew I would be out of the room most of the time and of course save for the 1 to 2 hour shuttles in and out. When and if I need a place for more then a day or 2 I look to other venues with more friendly, spacious and aromatic confines just in case I want to just chill or relax or do a little more entertaining then just on the bed. The Ricky Ricardo guy is annoying...I dont know who/what is worse ... him or the onslaught of taxi schiesters you see when you exit baggage claim at the airport |

I've been there a few times over the years and always smokey. Broken elevator and no hot water on several occasions. No girl fee and cheap, as well as close to Del Rey, is the only thing that keeps me even thinking about coming back to the Morazan. I haven't been there in a while though. |
