This may have been covered before but how do you get hooch back home on a multi-leg flight? Check it onward from the first US stop? I am checking a bag through from SJO to ACY--do I have to instead retrieve it in FLL, repack with the booze then re-check it onwards?
Never tried this before and there's a 4-hour layover in FLL.

Your baggage is retrieved and presented for customs inspection at the first U.S. arrival point. You then give it to the airline for reloading on your onward flight(s). It is very easy to put your "hooch"* purchases in your checked baggage after customs and before returning it to airline control in my experience.

* US military term have not heard for years. thanks for the memories Jazz :D

I.D. is correct. After you clear Customs but before you re-check your bag for your connecting flight you will need to stuff the booze in your checked bag. Do not forget to do this as in many airports there is often a security checkpoint just past the bag re-check and any booze in your carry on will be confiscated! Many times, shortly before landing, the cabin crew will make an announcement telling passengers on the plane the procedure for doing this.

Leave a little room in your checked bag for the hooch and have something soft available in the bag to provide some padding for the bottles. I've done this dozens of times and never had a broken bottle when I arrived home.

What you need to be concerned about is how to bring back a couple of bottles of DIACORT!

I always bring back 4-5 bottles in my checked bags. Never had one broken yet. I pad them with my clothes. And I always declare them, and for some reason they never make me pay duty as you're only allowed one bottle, I think.

Hey guys I will take a swig every now and agin. Not much. Maybe two or three drinks is about it for me.

"Hooch" Damn that brings back memories and Im only 49 years old. That word "Hooch" was in all the Vietnam documentaries and movies. Can't compare to having really having proudly served in "Nam" but it feels good to see the term being used.

But yus guys sound like you really like to drink.

Four bottles. Different liquor or the same?

I buy a bottle or two arriving in SJ and sometimes one 23 yr old Zacape on da way out. I got a nice size bar and I dont even drink? WTF?

Maybe!

Just Maybe?

I can sell yous guys ya rot gut before you leave and when you come back through HTown!

Any of yous guys got stopovers in Houston?

Holla!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I must be getting close! Seven more weeks to Paraiso/ Paradise!

Trouble with that is you have to buy the stuff someplace before the duty free shop which adds a lot to the price.

Yes, but the prices in CR beat the USA hands down. Taxes here ruin the price of alcohol!
