Pleased but in a way sad to say Jose Troyano the former manager at the Morazan has been promoted to GM of Hotel Europa. As guests of the Morazan know we are sort of a family . Jose says he misses everyone but now has 71 rooms to manage at the Europa . It has a pool , restaurant and very close to the gulch. He says his rates start at $ 55 per night. Jose sort of turned the Morazan around after the last 3 managers. We wish him the best at his new job.We thank him for his time at Morazan. OK Take Care, Uncle H. |

The elevator is usually out of order for a couple of hours a day. a problem if you have a Jr. suite on floor 5. I wonder if someday it will break down for good ![]() |

Well, they say cream rises to the top (in my case, shit floats). Is the Hotel Europa presently Chica-friendly ( I see they aren't a CRT Sponsor)? |

They have been chica friendly in the past and since Jose was at the Morazan, same ownership as the Europa & Royal Dutch, figures it will be chica friendly. Who cares that they are not a sponsor? Morazan, HDR, Nueva Johnson just to name a few are not sponsors but treat CRT members well. |

Another thing--the accretion factor. The more Sponsors we have, the more it's a recruiting tool, both to induce paid Membership AND so more venues can be persuaded to become Sponsors to maintain competitive advantage given our ever-expanding membership. Both are important in these challenging economic times. Not a vicious cycle--a virtuous cycle. |

Ahhhh... the Europa. On my very first trip to SJO way back in 05 the Europa is where I landed for 5 nights. I have never been back. The Castillo is far better. They were chica friendly then. If they still are I don't know. Berk.... |

I have enjoyed the Hotel Europa many times over many years. The pool is a good lap pool (1/2 olympic+/-). The water is very cold. It gets sun only a couple of hours a day as there are 5 plus story buildings surrounding it. One of the few downtown hotels with a pool. The rooms that overlook the pool have a large balcony. Breakfast is included in the price which was $50 per night including taxes. It is a chica friendly hotel. There is a casino, a bar, and a nice restaurant. It does some trade shows, corporate meetings, and executive lunches for the locals. Down sides, not all rooms have safes (or safe keys). They let you have a safety deposit box behind the check in counter as an alternative. The wireless internet only works in the common area on the second floor. Taxi at night and 6+ walk to HDR during day. But if you jet in without a reservation it is a good fall back option if the other regular haunts are booked. It is also very comfortable if you are banging a "non-working" local girl as it does not have the rep of many of the other hotels that we gringos frequent. More of a lovers weekend get away type spot. I also enjoy the Hotel Dunn Inn, Hotel Don Carlos, and Casa Conde for similar retreats. The Costa Rica Tennis Club and Apartotel La Sabana are interesting too around the park La Sabana. Dunn Inn and Casa Conde are chica friendly. Casa Conde and Apartotel La Sabana are actually apartment/condos with all the ammenities |
