Fellas: When staying at the Dunn Inn, in one of the smaller rooms...what do you think is an appropriate tip for the maid? Room is not too messed up, etc... CH |

Not sure about the Dunn Inn, but when I stay at the SL, I try to leave at least 4-500 colones per day. |

Cujo...I try to tip daily due to the whole "here and now" mindset...not wanting to sound disrespectful to anyone, I have found that if the maids get something every day..stuff is more straight. CH |

I hear ya...I guess it depends on where you're at. I feel rediculously comfortable at the SL so basically on the first day I round up the girls and tell them I'll pay them when I leave. Now a few years later, they just know and it seems to work well. So I would say everybody has their own way, even when it comes to tipping. But mostly I do it this way because I don't even want to have to think about tips everyday... (yes, I'm that mentally lazy  )Cujo |

I like the everyday approach, so whoever is doing the cleaning, gets the propina. Depending on how many of those nuisance coins I have, I get rid of the coins by tipping the maid between 1000 and 1500 colones per day. |

I usually leave ¢1000 (red) bill daily. If I leave a note asking for extra towels, or something else, I'd leave another red. |

If she goes out out of her way to get you extra towels or adjust her cleaning schedule to clean your room at the time you prefer then add an additional 1 mil note. I have always found that when I am staying more then one night in the hotel it is worthwhile to seek out the maid and ask her preference. Would you like a daily tip or the total at the end of my stay? That allows them to make the choice of which bests works for their financial situation. |

I like Irish Drifter's strategy to ask the maid her preference. I always left the tip at the end of the stay on all my travels all my life, but after listening to the brothers above i think i will tip per day. I think 2 mil a day is very cool. |

I take a bunch of US $1 bill and I tip $2 per day. and at the end of my trip if I have any coins left over; which I always do I leave for her..

It is almost the same amount a she does not have the hassle of exchanging the dollar bills for colones. |
