Just booked a trip from ORD to SJO for the last week in Feb. I did notice changes since I booked the same trip at the same time last year. 1. What happened to the discount airlines-- Jet Blue, Spirit & US Air? Last year at this time they had almost all the flights between these cities. Now they have virtully nothing. Plus the flights they do have are among the higher priced flights. Otherwise it's mostly American. I hardly miss these discount airlines because I thought they treat their passengers like fools. I hated when the attendent goes on the mic to say something to the effect that, "We are a discount airline and our flights cost less, thus we can screw you any other way we can." I used to hate A-A but now I can appeciate this line. 2. When I first started coming to CR a few years ago I noticed that a few flights had overnight layovers. I always book same day arrival packages, because I can't understand why you would want an overnight layover on a flight package whose total flight time is about 6 hours. It's like wasting a day of vacation. But now it seemd most flight packages from ORD ( Chicago) to SJO have overnight layovers. I only found a few same day arrival packages. Am I missing something? Unless you can't make an early flight, and they weren't all that early, why would someone take an overnight layover on that short a flight? I also wonder is this the same situation from other cities in the US, where distance usually dictates a one stop flight? |

Check Continental. I have never had an overnight layover and normally all my flights within 7-8 range from ORD to SJO. You do have to book early. I already booked my February and May flights coming up. |

ORD to SJO is awesome! I was just looking at Jan. and Feb. flights. AA is at $273 and Delta and Spirit are at $323. I use Kayak.com. All had 7 to 9 hour travel times including a layover of 1 hour going there and 2 hours (Customs) coming back. That's about as good as one can hope for. After using 4 different carriers for this trip, I now use Delta. Nice, all update planes. Just started charging for the second bag, first one is still free. I bring back a lot of coffee. Atlanta for your connection, with it's train between terminals is set up very well and there is a great number of choices for food. Plus for taking their credit card when they combined with NorthWest. Delta gave me 40,000 additional miles, a Gold membership for booking and buying with no blackout or limited seats and 2 day passes to their Skyrooms (free food and drinks). Including ticket, fees and taxes the last round trip ticket cost me 30,000 miles plus $9.52. Jan. is 30,000 miles plus $23.00. I have until this mid summer to drop the card before they charge an annual fee. That will be three trips for about $50.00 plus some about to expire mileage I had on two airlines. Pura Vida |
