Post subject:  Dunn Inn Review

I am just finishing my fifth trip to Costa Rica and my 4th trip there this year. I must say that the Dunn Inn has become my favorite place to stay while in San Jose. Here are the reasons:

1. Service – There service level is simply fantastic. In my experience this is a very rare thing in San Jose. The bar staff is very quick to make sure you always have a drink in hand. There is no begging for service at the Dunn Inn unlike what I have experienced at most other places. My favorite bartender is Tatiana. She is friendly and makes you feel welcome.
2. Boyd (a.k.a. BKTUNA) is a wonderful host. He goes out of his way to make sure the newbies have the information they need to have a good time while in San Jose. It is great having Boyd there to answer your questions and offer his experience.
3. The atmosphere. The Dunn Inn has a laid back atmosphere making it an oasis in the middle of all the action.
4. The 3-7 happy hour is simply the best happy hour deal in the area. It is a good time to make new friends and meet up with old friends before heading out for the night time activities.
5. Security – There is 24 hour security and whenever a girl leaves I receive a phone call before they let her leave the building to make sure everything is OK.
6. Newly renovated rooms – They are nearing the end of their room renovations and the new rooms look real nice. Flat screen TVs, tile floors, better insulation in the walls to keep the noise down for privacy sake.

I look forward to staying there again. The new casino that they are adding should be a lot of fun. I can’t wait until it is ready.

The majority of our rooms have AC. Those that do not have ceiling fans and are situated where they stay cool.

I saw one of the rooms that a friend stayed in in October and I was pleasantly surprised. The place is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside too.

I usually stay in an apartment for the week, but if I'm in town for a few days I will stay there.

Just returned from spending 5 days at the Dunn Inn. Good location. Very very good happy hr. Girl friendly. Great staff. The place is the cleanest place that I have stayed at in San Jose. The maids are doing a great job. Everyone is friendly.

Ditto to the above.

I was on my first ever mongering trip, and thus first to CR, and stayed with the Dunn Inn on Nov 14-18th.

They were full-up on the 1st day, but I still had all of the attention from Boyd that I needed to get setup and out in the hunt quickly.
He is a wealth of information and helpful on all topics, even normal tourism.

The place is very clean. I stay in a standard deluxe (SIBU room) and found the decor, bed, and washroom to have a nice heritage style that inspires relaxation. The chica's I brought back all thought it was nice as well...

Location is great, so close to HLH (my first pickup, see Emily HLH thread), and NF, SL and the HDR.
A BCR bank - for reloading$ - is also within 3 blocks but not on the CRT map, fyi.

Staff was friendly at the bar, front desk, and the security men.

Room to room, I can only compare it with a modern wing room at SL that I used in Oct, and it is a much better space period.. and a much better deal too. (nothing against SL, I went there every day while staying at the Dunn.)

Recommended 4 sure. will repeat.

Thanks for your concise review G, it helps me make my decision to stay at the HDI. How were the meals there? They don't post a menu like La Amistad. Is anyone at the bar during the day? I know that they don't allow unacompanied women at the bar.

I just got back from a stay at the Dunn, and, unfortunately, I must say.. Bktuna isn't exactly the most honest hotel manager in town.

I booked a Deluxe Queen room, and yet, I walk in, and my bed is some shining white, gargantuan, foursome-sized KING. WTF?, Boyd?

As if that wasn't bad enough, I was told there weren't steam irons in the rooms, but that there were laundry facilities or services I might choose to utilize. Ugh, so, why in the HELL, Boyd, were cordial, assertive, incredibly helpful miscellaneous housekeeping staff snatching up my clothes and ironing them upon request left and right every morning?!

Third, the food. I really don't know what the deal was with the food. Honestly. Why on earth would the, according to Boyd, "pretty good" curry chicken, be cooked in a sauce that tastes as good as the finest coconut curry at my favorite Thai restaurant in the states??

My personal word of advice -- be careful at the Dunn, man, you may get A LOT more than u bargained (i.e., paid) for

So far, great reviews! :D It looks like there is another fine establishment up and running in San Jose. I'm sure with Boyd as the point man, this trend will continue.
