forget it dude.

never, ever, in a gazillion years.

they make the presedente look like a`haven for particularly egregious sluts.

besides, that place is an overated dump with toilets and plumbing going back to the 1930's.

they should rename it "Floater Hotel"

please, lucky to find asswipe there.

and if it's a question like "Oh, I want to experience the 'Old' Costa Rica."

then, please, again.

i'd rather stay at the CardBoard Inn, Inc

and take a dump up against a stump or something.

and at least they have the decency to supply a fly swatter with your breakfast.

here are some reviews of that place

We stayed at the Grano de Oro on our first and last nights of our 10 day vacation in Costa Rica . The bellstaff greeted us at our car and were very nice and the front desk staff was very pleasant . Our first night we stayed in room 15 , a small ( very small ) poorly ventilated room . Our window open to a small area with exposed pipes , plants and we shared this avenue of fresh air with another room whose open window was a couple of feet away . With paper thin walls and a window so close , we now know more about our neighbors that night than we wanted to , including how much they enjoyed their active sex life . The resturant was georgeous to look at but the food was terrible and the "service " was poor at best . My wife had the encrusted sea bass . They should change te name to crusty sea bass , it was so overcooked that my wife had to carve it . I ordered a coffee cocktail off the drink menu that my waiter not only could't describe but he admitted that he had never heard of it . After dinner I requested or check , when our waiter went to get it he must have forgotten what he was doing . After waiting for him to return I went to find him and found him with our check in hand shooting the breeze with the bartender and another waiter . On the last day of our vacation we were again back at the Grano de Oro ( we had prepaid for the 2 nights prior to our vacation , or we wouldn't have ever come back ) . This time we were given room #35 ( even smaller than our first room .) The windows opened into the second patio area / hallway . We didn't have to share our much desired peace and quiet with close neighbors this time , just with everybody that walked to their rooms . We stayed in 4 hotels during our stay . all with 4 or 5 star ratings . But with the Grano de Oro I must say that no matter how much you polish a turd it is still just a piece of crap




The second visit (on the way back from Osa), I was treated like a second-class citizen. I went into the restaurant for lunch at 2 pm (again, I'm alone), and I asked about dinner that night (I didn't want to do room service again, and thought maybe i could just eat at the bar within the restaurant). Shockingly, I was told that it would be best if I got room service as it got "very busy" at night. I was stunned. Can you imagine them saying that to a man, a couple, or a family!? So, then, I'm sitting at the table for lunch...the restaurant is not busy. I had a glass of water and menus. Then I waited for someone to take my order. And I waited. And I tried to make eye contact. And they were setting tables around me. Walking right by me. Not a word. Not a look. Not a "un momento". So, gathered my things, got up and left. I thought for sure they would catch me and ask what was wrong. But nope. Nothing. I was invisible. The next morning I had 30 minutes to eat my breakfast before catching the plane. I asked if there was time to get breakfast. They told me I could only get the continental breakfast. Since that's not what I wanted, I said I'd just have coffee then. The guy then turned around and started walking away. I assumed I was to follow. A moment later, it was as if he caught himself being surly and rude to me and forced out a "right this way." I've never been treated that way in my life. Personally, I don't think people should support establishments that treat women so poorly. So, please try somewhere else. Thanks



The rooms...there a re a few newer deluxe rooms that have air conditioning. While you may have reserved, paid and confirmed your reservation for one of these you may not get it. If you are not able to get an a/c room you are forced to open the windows and breathe in fumes from passing cars. If the traffic bothers you can close the windows and crank up the fan. The restaurant is another adventure. It took 45 minutes to order, 1.5 hours to receive food and another 30 minutes for them to correct the order. I'm deathly allergic to avocados (this was explained in advance) and instead of giving me a new salad they must have just picked out MOST of the avocado slices. Needless to say I was not happy. Normally I would just change hotels, but now I was to sick to endure moving hotels.

Outside of that, the neighborhood is not the greatest. During peak traffic times the hotel is a 45 minute drive from the airport. There are several very nice hotels right by the airport that would make a good pitstop before and after your flight.




We were told that this was the place to say in San Jose. Hardly. There was an ant investation in our room so they moved us because I am highly sensitive to extermination chemicals. They moved us a few hours later...to a room that was JUST BOMBED. There were hundreds of dead ants all over the floor. The rooms are small and the restaurant is overpriced and does not offer food for people who do not like fancy foods (duck, rabbit, etc). If you do not have to stay in San Jose I would recommend staying outside of it. If you are forced to stay in the city (which has nothing to due) than go somewhere else.

I have not previously read the reviews which Californicationdude submitted but have read other reviews of Grano de Oro. His submissions are very consistent with what I have read about the venue.

One part that was not made clear, but was clear in other postings, is that Grano de Oro is NOT, I say again is NOT a hotel where one would feel welcome if one were escorting a lady of leisure for an evening tryst.

You should give it a second look. After the remodel you and your dog might change your mind. :shock:

It is very upscale and I doubt they would welcome a working girl as a guest. Appropriately attired she would be able to dine at the restaurant where the food and service is first class.

It's my estimation that our Chica companions have an advanced idea of where they are welcome...and where they are scorned. Thus, unless you made it crystal-clear that you were taking her there just for lunch/ dinner, expect fierce resistance. Matter of fact, if I were an older gent with a younger Latina wife, I'd think twice about lodgings there. That goes for the Barcelo or any other hotel marketing themselves to the TA "swells". We are a sometimes-scorned minority, I'm fine with that but don't push the envelope. As Popeye famously said, "I am what I am and that's all what I am."
