Why is it the Sportsman Lodge have guards with guns. You go any and everywhere ( MPs, Del Ray....) and there security personal don't have them. Is it a hot gringo territory?

Most door men at hotels have a gun
I have seen the man that comes around to get the beer order and collect the bill travel with a guard with a sawed off shot gun
The guys at the Del Ray have guns you just do not see them
The door man at the hotel I stay at keeps his in his pocket and preys he never has to use it
It is a layer of protection
It is common in all of Costa Rica not just at the SL where the biggest crime is paying to much or having your mini-bar pillferd

I second that. And they have heavier stuff readily available.

If some jealous novio or husband comes to collect his bride we will all be glad the guards are packing. The funniest guard is on the corner by the President Hotel in front of a matress store holding a pump shot gun ,and I didnt see any doves . I wonder how many people he has kept from hijacking the cama :D

I agree with Brother Vbound, with 3 provisos: that they're trained in the use, that they're security-trained (when to use them, and more importantly, when NOT to), and finally that they're trained in the care and cleaning of their weapons. I wouldn't bet heavily that any of these are true, and would bet strongly that all 3 aren't true. I see one of these guys pulling it out, it's drop, roll and scramble out of there for this Bro.

Guns in guitar cases reminds me of the movie Desperado starring Antonio Banderas. Great movie by the way, with an excellent soundtrack!
