I now go to the bank across the street from the Morazon. It's fairly quick, if it looks a little crowded come back later. Good Service and easy.

You can pay your exit taxes at just about any bank office in downtown san jose. I've bought them at BCRs and several other banks. Since I usually stay at the SL, I often use the bank that's on the second floor of the INS Building just north of Parque Espana, but any ol' bank will do.
Just tell them: "Necesito pagar mis impuestas de salir." You can pay in dollars or colones.

Last month I had to visit Panama for four days during my visit to San Jose. I went to a BCR and purchased two exit tax receipts at once, so I had one when I left for Panama and another when I finally returned to the U.S.

I usually have time on my hands at least once or twice when I'm in el centro, and I really prefer paying my exit taxes in advance instead of waiting in a sometimes-long line at the airport to pay them.

Just remember to take either your passport or a good photocopy with you when you go to the bank.

None of the private banks (BAC, Citi, HSBC, Scotia, etc.) sell exit tax stamps. Of the four poblic banks I know BCR and Banco Credito sell them but not sure about BN or Popular.

Just as an FYI... pay for the exit tax in CASH. If you charge it, they treat it as a CASH ADVANCE, and your bank will smack you with a fee, as well as interest accruing right away (no grace period).

Banco Nacional sells them but they ask for your passport, they won't accept a copy.

You can go to the Holiday Inn. They charge 5000 extra Colonies. But no line. It is worth the extra cost. We just did it Oct 5. Took all of 5 nin and out the door. With the extra time we went to New Fantasy before our flight out.

The vast majority of the time you can do it at the airport in that 5 minute time frame and save the $8.50 the HI charges. Let's see 12 five minutes time blocks in an hour x $8.50 per block = $102.00  Not a bad hourly rate.

I fail to see the problem here. I've been living here for 6 years (and leaving at least 4 times a year because I choose not to have residency) I also visited frequently for 3 years before that. I can't remember waiting to pay my exit fees for longer than 5 minutes at the airport. Then I spend another 5 minutes filling out the forms while waiting to get to the ticket counter. Now watch what happens....I'm leaving tomorrow and it will probably be an hour's mess paying.

Everyone has a different budget. This is Vacation for the most of us. And you right time does equal money. I do agree about being thrifty and not throwing away money. I was just giving some information to all the CRT brothers. Each his own. It happened to be my Birthday and I wanted to get one last lay in before the Airport. And as always I used all the coins that I have left over to pay the exit tax. Have a good one. DR

After my arrival, I usually go upstairs to exchange cash and get my exit tax. I have not encountered any lines and I think it is bcs the planes that have arrived are being turned around to board so almost all passengers are checked in.

" most of the girls down here, lie as a self defense mechanism and to not have to face the truth, thinking most men couldn't accept them knowing the whole truth. Simpler, they may just want men to think they are as perfect as they want to appear to them, trying to hide what they consider to be the ugly truth about themselves. And I may be reading more into it than is there, but I do believe they consider the basis of the lies to be justified."
