Post subject:  La Amistad – A step above

From PM’s of the guys that are already there this week, the train noise is almost non-existent but I did not wanted to report on it until I was there on my coming trip. First hand, field reporting. But I just ran across this article in La Nación newspaper and this is why I think that La Amistad have gone and step above the rest when they tried to take care of us.

The article is on Spanish but it comes down to Matt paying out of his own pocket to hire two train crossing guards so the train does not have to blow the whistle as they cross the street by La Amistad. I do not know about you but this goes beyond customer service to me.

Yeah, but according to the article, the Transitos aren't agreeing with it. If they don't like it, then they (the gov't) should do something about it themselves.

Post subject:  La Amistad: TRAIN HORN SOLUTION IMPLEMENTED!!!!

A very pro-active measure on the part of La Amistad and to be complemented by all of us who use or even consider using this fine hotel.

I provide a very poorly translated version of the article below:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
"Hotel use 'human signal' to alert the train to pass"

Failing that the State would improve safety at crossings of the railway, a hotelier in Otoya district hired two officers improvised Traffic signals that warn the train coming home

The men dress casual shirts, sport shoes and reflective vests, and carry a homemade sign that reproduce the octagon High.

When the train is approaching, they crossed the street, 100 meters west of the Hospital Calderon Guardia, with signs that say: "Stop the train coming."

The measure allows motorists to stop a few meters from the railway, which already was an accident between a train and a public transport bus, on 1. St September.

That day, the Traffic Police found the bus driver disrespected road signs. The collision wounding seven passengers.

If no train passing vehicles near the back of the signal has another message: "There are vehicles, not beep, please, thanks."

Apparently, this legend claims that the drivers do not check the train whistle in the residential area, where he settled the hotel.

One worker, Miguel Diaz, acknowledged that the idea of the owners of Hotel La Amistad.

It is unknown how long work at the site two traffic officers improvised, how many hours remain in place and how much they receive for such work.

Disagree. When asked, German Marin, director of the Transit Police, said he was not aware of this curious way of warning that the train is approaching.

However, it considered that the measure is inadequate.

"I think he (the owner of the Hotel) can not legally do that because there is no provision to assist him," Marin said.

He said the owner of the property you could describe as a "good citizen", but the measure does not belong.

"For that, there road signs, the whistle of a train, the railway line and clear obligation for drivers to activate the whistle. If no beeps, may be more accidents, "he said. Marvin collaborated Caravaca.

In CR no good deed goes unpunished. Read the transit police chief´s comment. Basically that there is no right for Amistad to do that. The news story probably just opened up a can of municipality issues. Muy Tico

I would stay there just to watch Matt in action, with his east coast accent speaking Spanish and directing the Ticos.
