My my my... If you love meat, Fogo Brasil would seem to be a slam=-dunk. Food quality: Strictly four out of five stars. While plentiful, the meat dishes aren't all that great for the money. The "salad bar" is almost a joke. Service is excellent, as is ambience. They featured a terrific reed player (sax, clarinet, flute) the night we visited, backed by karaoke-like tracks. The restaurant felt very clean. Linens on the tables, good flatware. Price: 18K CRC per adult. This isn't a bad price for the amount of food you get, but keep in mind that price doesn't include beverages, dessert or service/tax. Ourtotal bill for three adults was 95.700.00 colones (around U.S. $170.00). The taxi fare from the Gulch is around 3K. Located in Cariare. Would I repeat? Yes, especially for an important date or business meeting. This restaurant is certainly not for the weak-of-hunger or light-of-wallet. Four stars. ![]() |

Oh dear God, talk about YMMV IMO, the service is terrible, they bring the same cheap cut of meat around at least every other skewer, it´s over priced and both times I went they padded the bill and after being caught by me STILL expected a propina I took Karen once several months ago (I hear she´s still there eating!) ![]() Maybe I caught them on 2 bad nights but at those prices, we need better meat quality, I know they have it, but they´d rather you fill up on the salad bar and the cheap stuff you´ll always see first I´m happy you enjoyed El C, but this one I have to YMMV for sure |

With Klockman on this. I found the quality of the meat poor, the service indifferent and the price for the quality ridiculous. Just as an aside the location is Sabana Norte. |

This previous post on Fogo Brasil backs up Brother ID's statements: www.costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8095 see page 4 In that thread was mentioned another Brazilian restaurant--La Fogueira in Plaza Itskazu 2588-0080. Is this still open? Is this still a viable option? |

Yes it is still open and a much better place then Fogo Brasil. Food and service batter and less expensive. Only about a 5 minute longer cab ride from the gulch. |

When Fago first opened it was a lot cheaper and much better. Too bad it went downhill. |

First three times, in 2004-6, it was great. Since than, not so much. |

My take: If you love heavily salted so so cuts of meat, then step right up, this place is da bomb. For me there are many other cheaper places with quality food at a much cheaper price. Regards, 911 Driver |

Go Esquinas de Buenos Aires or some of the other ones mentioned in this thread. Here in Fort Myers we have better Brazilian restaurants than that clip joint Fago. |

"fogo" in the name doesn't automatically make the place authentic. Houston has a fogo de chao. It's pretty good. There prolly is better..but even in argentina I wouldn't walk in to a joint that has "fogo" in the name thinking that it's the best. It is rare the city that has the "best" of two things...SJO has pretty damn good panocha.......anything else in SJO is mediocre. |
