Post subject:  first post,Sportsmen's Lodge and Hotel Castillo. Extra fees?

Hey guys, my first post here, just started reading two days ago.

Sorry if it's a stupid question, and I did try the search but the string (Sportsmens, Sportsmen's, SL, etc..) proved difficult, so I figured I'd introduce myself and ask this question.

Looks like Castillo is cheaper, but I can probably shell out a few extra bucks for a nicer place with a bar downstairs with girls easily available.

Any advice?

I'll be going from 10/8-10/12

If anyone will be there then and wants to meet up for a drink, I'd be happy to do so, as well, maybe get some much needed info from you seasoned vets. Thanks!

The SL is the painfully obvious answer here... Join the board for discounts to many hotels.

Welcome to the board..

Yes, SL does have a bar with girls available from 9am till midnight. I would recommend staying there your first time, you will meet guys who can show you the ropes.

The problem (for you) is that your trip dates are pretty soon, so chances are that they are already booked up, especially the better/new wing rooms. But you may get lucky.

Thanks for the input, and not ripping me for asking a question that I'm sure has been asked before.

I'll call them today or tomorrow, but I only have the budget for a standard room at $59 so I'm hoping there will still be some of those available.

What is the usual price for drinks down at the bar? 5-10 bucks?

If you stay for 4 or more nights, you get a 20% discount, so the room will be $47/night.

But add 16% taxes to the bill, and it's $55/night (with tax).

I don't know about mixed drinks, but beer is cheap. Locals are about $2, imports are around about $3.50-4.

Yikes, looks like I was wrong. I got an email back that only the 120$ rooms were available. Castillo an acceptable alternative? Do they charge fees for girls?

Anyone know how much Hotel Del Rey runs? (I imagine substantially more)

HDR is not only considerably more there is also a $10.00/per chica/per trip to your room. Can add up quickly especially for a first timer when he lets his little head do the thinking in the candy store.

DR is way overprices, charges $10 per girl upstairs, and is run down.

Your best bets are Hotel Dunn Inn and Hotel Castillo. Dunn Inn has renovated their rooms and is now run by a CRT member. The standard rooms are $49 (+ taxes), including breakfast I believe.

Castillo is ok. I stayed once in 2 different room. I like the new section room upstairs, but I hated the main building old room I had.

No chica fees at either place. And both offer CRT VIP discount, so signing up will save you more than the cost of the membership in the first few days.

I would try the Dunn Inn first. https://costaricaticas.com/news.php?id=428

NH,
All good choices but his budget eliminates at least half of those.

Yeah, unfortunately, my budget is around 40-60 a night since I've already got a few other trips going on this year (before starting college - late at 26). DR, London, Montreal. This was kind of a last minute idea.

All signs seem to point to Castillo for me, pending availability.

At Hotel Castillo paying with cash and the CRT discount a standard room runs $38, a deluxe $50.

Very friendly place. Friendly staff. Never a chica fee. Nice resturant and bar next door. About 2 blocks to SL.

Hotel la Amistad is favored by many. Recent remodel, comfy rooms and beds. New resturant and bar on premises. Be aware that the passenger commuter train passes by the hotel with horn blaring from early in the morning.
