I know most of us - if not all - have the itch to get to CR and squeeze in trips whenever possible ... sometimes on short notice, sometimes during peak travel times.

This addiction of ours surely doesn't help the wallet especially in regards to the airfare. There have been a few threads about getting the best deals - we rather have the money for the ladies and assorted party favors than for some airline and their piss-poor service.

Anyway the question is: What's the most you shelled out for tix to get to CR? (In other words, how much money has it cost you when the little head over-ruled the big head?)

Don't be embarrassed, gentlemen ... out with the truth! :P

WELL.... I voted in the $500-750 choice. If we are talking JUST Costa Rica

I know my friends hate me, but I actually did pay $520 once... My 1st trip when I did not know what I was doing.......

Since then (I think the trip count is 34) I normally pay $277 to $297. I have on occasion seen my prices at $370 and bit the bullet...

Let the slamming begin...

I have noticed a tick upwards and lousier flight times upcoming, so I think I will be joining the rest of you $400-500 fellows soon.. Yes I know your out there..  New York, New Jersey, FLORIDA..... and the rest of you NON stoppers... :( :( sin mis Dallas amigos por sopuesta

Now, if we are talking OTHER destinations, I have paid well over $500 before and am seriously considering biting the bullet on a couple $1,000 tickets in the very near future..

I made a split decision on Thursday to go to CR on a Friday, and that ticket cost me like 430, which was my highest. My saving grace is I live in Orlando, so its never really that expensive.

I was flying back and fourth every week in 2007. I bought the tickets months in advance so my average ticket price was $300 Atl to Sjo.

THEN one day, I went to check in and I didn't have a ticket purchased for that week. I was at the first class counter and it was 59 minutes before the flight. One first class ticket without advance purchase $1749 !

I've paid between $350 and $800 from Seattle in the past couple of years. Usually the airfares range from $600 to $1800 for coach. Some times you can't find a bargain to save your life! Occasionally one of the airlines will drop their fare for a while. Sometimes other airlines follow, sometimes they don't. It's always a crap shoot. I always have email alerts enabled and get emails directly from the airlines for their specials. I bought this month's flight for $400 on Continental thru Houston after receiving an email from CO that they had dropped their airfare by $50.

And it is not always the best flights that cost the most. Usually the most expensive flights are on TACA thru LA. There is usually a 12 hr plane change in LA and another stop and/or plane change in some other hell hole like Guatemala or El Salvador. That route is far off of my radar! Mexicana thru LA and Mexico City are also usually very expensive. They have never been in the running.

I like to hold out for CO thru Houston. I can leave SEA around midnight. Catch some shut eye on the 5 hr flight to Houston, change planes in IAH at breakfast time and arrive in SJO at midday. It makes a good use of MY time.

Almost makes me wish that I lived in South Florida........NOT!

I paid just under $800 once for a last minute trip originating in SJO going to ORD.

The lowest I've paid was $169 from DC. It was the first week that planes were flying after 9/11 and they were practically giving away tickets. (And before people jump on me, I had already sold everything in the US in August with plans to move down here in December and had to find housing).

This is an interesting thread that makes me think a minute..

I wonder if I would have a different outlook/style if my trip was as far/expensive...
I do have a sense I can "relax" knowing its just a 2 1/2 hr flight away.

Perhaps guys who fly from the far west coast or mid west seek to get more out of their trip already "pre-planned". I'm not sure if I'm making sense, but I know what I mean... :)

I am in the same boat as JOsie, usually less than $300 from Chicago.
