Post subject:  A certain taxi driver
I was at SL last week and had another great time,with only one bad incident that has nothing really to do with SL. It has to do with Gato the taxi driver. I have seen this guy's name mentioned before. Gato is the guy who picked me up at SJO. As soon as we drove away he asked me if I had been to SL before. When I said I was there a few months ago he said"Oh yes, Becky told me about you. She's waiting for you. She loves you, and she can't wait to see you again." I told him that I don't remember a Becky, but he keept on taking about how she is waiting for me all the way to SL.

The next night Gato came in and saw me at the bar and asked" Have you seen Becky? She is looking for you." Again I told him that I do not remember a Becky.

Then the next night Gato saw me at the bar again and said' Becky is here and she is looking for you. Have you seen her?" Again I told him I do not remember a Becky. But just after he walked away a girl comes up to me and says' Hi, It's me Becky. Don't you remember me? We had a great time. Why don't we do it again?"

After looking at her not only did I not want to do it again, but I was sure we never did it the first time either. I never saw this girl before. She kept on trying , but after a while she finally gave up and walked away.

Then I started talking to another girl at the bar about this incident, and this girl told me that Becky is Gato's wife. Which brings up the question--"Is it legal to pimp for your wife?"

I had made arrangements with Gato to take me back to SJO when I was leaving, but of course , I assume after I rejected his wife, Gato was a no-show. I told this story to the driver who did take me back to SJO and he laughed and said " Gato is crazy".

I hope he isn't so crazy that he is dangerous, which is why I hesitated to put this story in public. But in the meantime I wanted to warn people about this guy, and I would like to know if anyone else has had a expierience like this with this guy.

The one thing I learned is of course, next time I go to SL, when I call to arrange a ride, I am going to tell them "Anybody but Gato."l

Jimmy or Gustavo are great drivers. There's seedy people everywhere Lomo, if you got a bad vibe from Gato its probably warrented...

Gato kept trying to push us into going to some strip club named Hollywood last time we used him.

We knew better and never went to Hollywood, despite him constantly talking this place up.

The kickback would of been huge as there was 10 of us.

So now I don't really trust him.

Not very smart of him to be pushing us towards a clip joint when we know better.

He also runs on TICO TIME!

You must understand that all of these private taxi drivers are smiling in our faces and are our "friends" as long as the money is rolling in. As soon as the money stops, or they get a better offer, see ya!!! Kind of like the hookers in that sense. :lol:

Honestly, they are all a bunch of scammers, but they kind of have to be in that profession. They always lookout for #1 first. Read this from a couple years ago to see an example of what I mean: https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=118624

When I used to stay at SL all the time, and used their services, they were all my best friends. Now, they don't even say hi when we pass each other. :roll:

Mind you, these are private drivers, they are not employees of SL. Don't expect the fine reputation and customer service that the SL exhibits to carry over to these guys. They will leave you stranded and no-show if more money comes along.

I had a guy name Gato that drove my friends and I to Arenal. He has a 8 passenger van? Is he a Tico pretty dark with a mustache, maybe in his 40s? There has to be more than 1 Gato in SJ right?

This seems like it could be the same guy.
