One can only hope, it sucks flying out of here. SWA would make it so much cheaper. All you guys who fly out of major hubs have no idea what it is like flying out of podunk locations :( :( :(
Regards, 911 Driver

Even if SWA is ultimately the successful bidder it is no guarantee that they would maintain the DEN/SJO route. Frontier did not find it a big money winner and even suspended service for some months.

911 Driver - Sometimes I will fly on SWA for $59 each way, from a smaller airport to a place where I can get a better fare. Even with the added $118 is can still be substantially less expensive. :D

Unfortunately, if you fly SWA to SJO, you'd start in Denver, fly to Memphis, then to Chicago, then to Guadalajara, then to Panama City, over to Bogota and arrive in SJO 52 hours after you started.

Every time I am getting on a Southwest flight I have the uncontrollable to moo -- the feeling for being herded into a cattle car.

I don't mind lining up for the flight like a cattle because I think their service is really good and they are on time more than some other airlines.

This would be a great deal for Texas members since CAL has such a monopoly out of IAH and AA out of Dallas.

Go SWA in case I do move back Tejas!

I fly them both. Southwest does have good service but I think Continental does too. AA, I'll walk thank you.

Also, the only non stop from dallas to SJO on AA picks up a lot of passengers connecting from up north and is usually pretty full. So the demand for a second non stop is there hopefully

Republic is the winning bidder for Frontier.

Quote:
By Dan Gallagher, MarketWatch
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Republic Airways Holdings won an auction to acquire the bankrupt Frontier Airlines Holdings Inc., beating out the much larger Southwest Airlines in the process.

In a statement late Thursday, Republic /quotes/comstock/15*!rjet/quotes/nls/rjet (RJET 6.35, +0.35, +5.83%) said it has been declared the winning bidder in the auction for Frontier. Republic will purchase the Denver-based discount carrier for $108.75 million, and has agreed to waive any right to recovery on its $150 million general unsecured claim.

Republic was the airline's largest unsecured creditor.

The move represented a defeat for Southwest /quotes/comstock/13*!luv/quotes/nls/luv (LUV 9.00, -0.24, -2.60%) , which submitted a bid to acquire Frontier for $170 million in cash earlier this week.

In a statement Thursday, Southwest said a "key reason" that its bid failed was because the company would not drop its requirement that Frontier's pilot union come to agreement with Southwest's own pilots.

The company said in the statement that "culture and relationships with its employees are too important to compromise."

Frontier entered bankruptcy protection in April of last year. The company has a fleet of 51 airplanes and services routes primarily in the Western states.

Republic operates 228 planes and serves 98 destinations through agreements with larger airlines.

Yes AA does suck big time. Coming back on Mon. flight over 2 hrs. late for only a 2 hr. 10 min. flight. We did at least get a gate right away at MIA. Other trips the flight has been early and had to sit and waste the time savings for an open gate. Getting real tired of AA.

Is Love Field/Dallas an international airport?

Mia2Ewr,

No Love is not an international airport  Additionaly, the infamous Wright Amendment (former Hs. Speaker from Ft. Worth) precludes SWA from flying non stop to many of states SWA services

One of the goals of SWA in acquiring Fronteir was to gain control of the Denver market which Frontier had achieved though they had higher fares than SWA. Also ,take on United which has a nice load factor out of Denver. Lastly, the acquistion would have given SWA some international routes to Mex., and CR which has long been thought of as one of SWA's growth vehicle in the future. What would have been interesting is, if SWA acquired Frontier, and having an operation in FT.L would they have competed with Spirit, AA ,etc. for the Central American market :?: :)

So it's back to the drawing board for us Dallas traveler :( AA to S. America usually via MIA  or the one daily direct flight in the afternoon. This flight is usually in the $500 -$600 range  Or, CO via IAH which has multiple daily options starting at 6am landing in SJO at 11:45 :D, CO also has an afternoon flight as well :D
