There hasn't been a mention of the Amon Plaza since August. Is it still in business and is Nixon still the man to contact?

Stayed in a Jr. suite on July 2-6 and hotel and staff seemed to be okay. I have heard of the financial problems of the hotel but it wasn't evident to me when I stayed there.

Stayed at the Clarion Aug. 27-31 and everything was good, same as my previous stays there in Nov. '08 and Feb./Mar./June 2009. Just booked next stay for Nov. 4-9.

I also have read about the alledged financial problems of the Hotel, but saw no indication of a change or decline in any way.

Nixon is still the man to contact (paradisorooms@hotmail.com) for the $75/night rate, which includes continental breakfast and no chica fee.

Clarion works for me for many reasons......quiet, clean & comfortable, good security and casino bar open late (2am) to get the young lovelies a drink of their choice on the way in to keep the party going!!!

A friend of mine just came back from CR few weeks ago and stayed at the Clarion. he said he has never seen the hotel this slow. The casino was pretty empty at night as well. It may just be the economy?

ex del rey/ sportsmens lodge, I wonder what hotel occupancy runs thru out the week down there. i bet tourist numbers are still down 40%
around san jose. Jaco must be an unmitigated disaster for hotels and restaurants?

Yes, numbers say that tourism is down a lot, but it can't be that bad. I tried to negotiate a better price on the $125 room at one of the places on the Caribbean side. The best they would do is $114. No gracias.

The Clarion Amon Plaza is a great candidate to become a Del Rey lite or an SL on steroids.

If the political situation in Costa Rica were better or more clear, a new team could do wonders with that place. Get rid of the Clarion affiliation, renovate the rooms, create a bar space or two conducive to mongers and chicas. It already has a restaurant and casino, not to mention being located near most everything we like in San Jose.

The occupancy rates of the SL, LA, HLH and Del Rey ought to have somebody thinking about this location.

I was thinking this place is a nice hotel, in a good location but the occupancy seemed low. It could be turned into a "monger hotel" by taking it private, providing excellent customer service. I liked the Jr suite with the couch and maybe adding nice mattresses

Kickstand;

I looked at a couple of rooms this may and they were better than 90% of the rooms in San jose already. Restaurant needs some changes however,
lots of complaints on this board-never ate there myself.

thats a great idea for this place. and if it was booked up Inca Real Hotel is
200 ft away.

No way would the Barrio Amon powers, who already would love to shut down the SL and HLH, let the Clarion become another Del Rey.

hiker tom

so not more than one block (more or less) from clarion someone is doing a chica friendly casino addition to a hotel. go figure.

What is the difference of one or two blocks between the same business idea?

the clarion seems like it was rocking five years ago. i guess Sleep Inn
or other places are better located now for a similiar price?

fred757
