I am not totally sure about my memory but I believe that it was check in at 2 and check out at noon? I could be wrong but in any case they are very accomodating and will work with you and be flexible. |

I would guess that when you can check in depends on how full they are. Some days you could get in whenever you show up. I've never arrived before 1pm so I don't know for sure when they can get you in, but I guess it depends on when the room is ready more than a set time. I've gotten in quite late and that has never been a problem either. |

If a room is ready or close to ready you can check in right away or soon. If a room is not ready you have to wait until it is ready. Even if the clock or website says different.... Much of the world works on a check out between 11-2pm and checkin between noon-3pm, however in places like CR it is merely a rough guide. It is not like someplaces where they charge you for half a day for staying an hour past checkout....at least not the Castillo or SL or Amistad. Its sort of a reasonable person standard of business rather than a US style contract. Be careful if you order coffee....it might be hot. |

...And I'm sure like most hotels even if you get there too early to check in, if you have a reservation, they'll securely hold your luggage til later, whilst you avail yourself of, say, a restaurant or an MP or a cigar tour or... |

That may be true in most of CR, but the folks at Tabacon are real sticklers when it comes to their noon check-out time. I've never seen anything else like it anywhere in CR. I agree with the others, that Darren runs a very accomodating operation. I can remember only one time that I've stayed there when my room wasn't ready when I got there (sorry, don't remember what time that was but I think it was unusually early because I was coming from elsewhere in CR rather than flying in from the US). Anyway, they just stowed my bags for me and I just walked down the street to NF for a quick session while they finished cleaning the room (I'm not a coffee drinker)

What makes TABACON worth the hassle? IMHO, it isn't really. Rack rates used to be a lot less though even then they were still very high. Over the last few years they've gotten completely ridiculous. One CRTer (I forget who) reported that during non-peak season their rates are often negotiable and they do include admission to their hot springs which offsets a lot of the difference. Whether it reduces it enough to make it worthwhile is a matter of opinion. However, this thread is about Castillo check-in/check-out times, so lets not get off topic. |

I stayed in room #6 one night and do not recommend this room as the mattress are completely broken and shower is stopped up. I believe this is the worst room in the hotel and I have heard many good things about the hotel, so I am not being critial of Hotel Castillo, just stating what I know to be factual |

Which one is that? Is it the room that is on the hall facing the pool table? I've only stayed in the old building once, but that may have been the room. At the time they had some plumbing problems that I'm told were finally fixed, after hiring several people who didn't succeed. A stopped drain could be a temporary problem. Were they helpful? |

Yeah, the slow shower drain has been a problem for a while and is a hassle but I like the room for the little balcony area. Mattresses must be getting a lot of heavy use to get that bad. It is up the stairs and 1st room on right as you get to the hallway. Balcony area is very cool...Actually one of my and a few other regulars favorite room. |
