Hey everyone. I stayed at the Hotel Delrey in 2003, 05, 07, and will possibly do so again next month. When I stayed there in 2003 I believe my room was about $55 a night if I remember correctly, which seemed very reasonable a the time. Their room rates are no longer listed on their website like they used to be, so I sent them an email requesting their current rates. My eyes almost popped out of my head when I received a response and saw how much they went up. The nightly rates have gone up about 75% since my first trip 6 years ago! Very disappointing. So I guess the question I'm posing is at what point will their nightly rates stop increasing, or are their rooms in such hot demand that they can set the bar as high as they want to?? You'd think that they would offer non-seasonal discounted room rates during the summer (which is when I'm able to do most of my traveling), but that doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks for reading!

As long as guys come to CR year after year and stay no where but the HDR their rates will make no difference and they will stay full.

Everyone I know who has stayed elsewhere, be it the Sportsman's Lodge, La Amistad, Castillo or Clarion, has never returned to the HDR.

I agree! To me this proves a couple of things: Some guys do little to no research and a lot of guys don't care. :P

I have never and will never crash at the DR, but like hanging there sometimes especially at K.L.

There's def nothing wrong with hanging there. I just find it funny how over the years I would hear guys suggest for newbies to stay there, something I've always disagreed with...

Not everything is as it appears..... I had a conversation with Greg (one of the owners of the DR) a while ago where I asked him how business was. He said the the food and booze revenue were around the same BUT room occupancies were down about 20% year over year. Perhaps the U.S. should stop using the unemployment numbers and home foreclosures to determine how the economy is deteriorating and just ask how the DR is doing. Now there's an economic indicator for you.

I can see it now:

CNN Reports
Mixed economic indicators in the news today. While the DR Occupancy index for May was off by 20% from a year ago, the reported median retail prices for chica services was up just over $5 USD. Raven sales remain steady.

VB, I had the same conversation with Greg last month and his take was that as long as the high rollers are willing to pay it, girls and hotel, it is what it is. I have not stayed at HDR for a couple of years now and still enjoy my trips regardless. They do have the one stop shop for the majority of first timers and guys that just don't have a clue to what else is out there as alternatives but that's there loss.

I just got back from a 9 day stay there. I haven't stayed there for about 8 years -- I don't think there has been one upgrade, if anything, the place has gotten so bad I was embarassed to bring chicas up. It is the very worst hotel I have ever stayed at. I have stayed in hostels that have nicer rooms. I hooked up with a girl that didn't\couldn't go upstairs so we went to the short time hotel around the corner. I thought it was better than the Del Rey. I saw the new rooms at the SL and the suites at the Armistad and actually got angry on how much better they were, plus Bill and Matt (I think his name was Matt) were good guys I wanted to have a beer with. Thanks to the Del Rey, the fat, hairy, drunk girl that I slept with unprotected one night was not my worst mistake -- choosing my hotel was.

Peace.

So now they are offering discounts according to other posts. Plenty of other options especially the Morazon at $52.00 a night out the door with breakfast, taxes and no chica fee.
