If I tell a local that I am staying at the Amistad will they put two and two together? Would like to stay there on either end of a business trip but don't want to tip the local.

Unless they are very familiar with the hotel, NO, La Amistad servers many eco-tourist guest. On one of my trip a met a Doctor on the plane and she was not aware of La Amistad since we have multiple dates and she called me at the hotel multiple times.
