Trip Advisor review for La Amistad:

“Hotel-come-Brothel?”
Hotel La Amistad
2 of 5 stars

May 3, 2009 | Trip type: Couples

I had high hopes for this place, considering TripAdvisor rated it #2 (out of 50) hotel in San Jose and seemed like a good value (about $65 for a decent looking place and rave reviews) for those of us who are on a slight budget. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful and the room did deem to be a good value (it included a tv, its own bathroom, and a temper-pedic bed). Now the bad stuff...did you know prostitution is legal in Costa Rica? Well I didn't but was enlightened about 5 min after we arrived at the hotel. As we were checking in, an older american man escorted his prostitute up to his room (she looked not even 18 mind you...oh and it was still the afternoon!). Another 5 minutes go by, and another mid 50s american man walks down with his "mami" (yes he actually referred to her as that to his friends) and she leaves. I also noticed the hookers give the front desk receptionist something and pick it back up when they leave..it looked like some card. I saw the 3rd prostitute when I was using there computer/internet (oh thats actually another positive...free internet). The hotel is all hard-wood floors, which is pretty but not when you're trying to go to sleep and all you hear are the clacking of the hookers heals..and lots of doors opening/closing. Also, Im a bit of a hypochondriac so all I could think about was how many prostitutes have had sex in the bed...it was like an MSNBC under cover investigation episode was running through my head the whole night...the ones where they blacklight the sheets. I did find 2 small hairs in the bed (Im going to pretend it was off a guys head of hair and not the other "thing" or else I would have a panic attack). The comforter was a little gross and dated (it was satin-like material....you can't bleach that stuff). In the morning I had the pleasure of overhearing the old american men's sexscapades with their costa rican lovers...gross! Oh and the breakfast was disappointing (few fruit, toast, peanut butter, juice box). I guess the hotel is near brothels and an area of San Jose with lots of prostitutes. Do not bring your Ch*ldren here. If you don't mind the hookers and some noise at night then you will do fine here.

I like the Amistad alot but unless you are staying at the SL or HDR you are occasionally going to encounter the type that wrote this review. About 6 weeks ago at bfast I encountered a 40ish gringa business type who was moderatley attractive and I chatted with her for about 30 minutes over bfast, hell we even exchanged business cards and I had a feeling that I might could have made something happen if I would care to try.

Next day the same gringa encounters me escorting an "amiga" down stairs and you should have seen the "go straight to hell" look she gave me.

But this is just something you have to be prepared to tolerate when you stay at a hotel that caters to all types and just not just gentleman mongers.

Don't forget the singing!

El Ciego's favorites always sing him to sleep.

I especially liked his report of his little darling lulling him to sleep with that old Costa Rica Hymnal...starting with

"You are my shelter from the storm"

blah, blah, blah

and ending with

"The Devil has a special place in Hell for Whoremongers like you!"

Hilarious, when I hear that click clack, I always open the door to see how hot the chica is  Only a gringa  I gotta check out if Matt replied to that one. I know he stays on top of that stuff. BTW, any hotel bed has had tons of sex on it. Surely, more than that gringa's cama. She was right about the breakfast part. But the sexcapades stories are what make staying there so much fun.

PURA VIDA!

No worries - just go back and work on your English some, and next time you'll be golden...

Well LA is more of a laid back place right? Don't frequenters of this hotel say it's nice to "be away" from the action? Well then certainly it should be known this type of thing would happen running into american non p4p folks.

I have 3 words to say to this woman--"due diligence, Gringa". Preferably before you travel. Oh, and "Have a nice day".
You know what would be a real hoot? If she was from Rhode Island where prostitution is not illegal...cuz it's not covered by any state laws. Ho ho.

i never look at those people let alone talk to them.
but there is such a thing as being aware of who is in the room when discussing conquests.
and i'm with whoever said the clacking heels makes them open the door and see whats up. esp late at night it can be pretty humerous.

ok i must be REALLLL confused-maybe sarcasim and i do not get this thread

1)you are on CostaRicaTicas.com and since you are posting you signed up for an account

2)You didnt know it was legal? but hence i resort back to question 1

3)you hated it so much that you would rather post on a site of dedicated poeple to there San Jose..mmmm not sure of logic

again this just seems odd of a thread

i can understand if he was giving a bad review of the hotel on the basis of somthing other then "hookers" go there. LOL

:?:  :?:

You did not get the thread…

TripAdvisor is a civilian traveling reviews and opinions. The person that wrote the review did it on TripAdvisor. A member is just reporting on what that other person reported.

But kind of stupid because like you said. Prostitution is legal in CR. Two consenting adults going into a business transaction. End of story.
