Is the Thursday Night CRT Happy Hour still happening? Will be arriving at the SL on Thursday 5/6/10 and would love to meet some CRT members. Met a few last time I was at the SL and they could not have been a nicer group.

According to the article, it doesn't start until 6/4/10. Too bad it doesn't start earlier... especially since Memorial Day weekend should be a big one. It looks like SL is trying to bolster summer business with all their new specials starting AFTER Memorial Day.

I think you are confusing the summer room discounts wiht the happy hour. I believe the SL Happy hour is every Thursday 5-7 year round.

My bad. I re-read the post referenced in the OP... It says that the happy hours started 6/4/2009 (last year), not 6/4/10 (this year). I guess I am just behind the times! You are correct, and I stand corrected.

The room specials do start after Memorial Day this year, however. (I wish they started sooner - I might have made a trip down in May - but now may just wait til after Memorial Day.)

Does the Sportsman charge a guest fee to CRT members. I know Dunns Inn doesn't.

Three times I have tried making reservations at this place and each time either it's filled or they try to trick you into their more expensive rooms or their dog rooms in front that are loud and lack privacy. I call them a full 2 weeks in advance, even during off season. I keep hearing good things about them and visited the bar several times but what a hassle ! I keep going back to the good old reliable Del Rey, wild and crazy hell-hole but reliable and dependable ! I guess they're that good as everyone who talks about them loves them, I guess these people are making their reservations a month in advance.
I will say I have always had a great time in the bar and the food in the restaurant is good and reasonable, I guess I'll just stay at the Rey and walk over there...

They are not trying to trick you, they are just very busy because of the quality service and premises. Two weeks probably is not enough to get the best rooms.

Actually what happened was a tica who answered the phone told me rooms were available "down the hall" from the front desk as I told her I required a quiet room and strongly stated I was aware of the 4 or so front rooms in the main hallway as you walk in which I did not want. When I called back to make the reservation, I continued to grill her and she finally admitted those were the rooms she was talking about. Sometimes ticas try to fool us but sometimes it could just be a miscommunication, but it was odd because I very strongly stated in my first call that I was aware of those rooms and definitely did not want any of them, but yes, it must be true, the place is so popular 2 weeks may not be enough notice. Will be down the 19th thru the 25th and will see you at HLH, HEARD YOU'VE DONE GREAT THINGS THERE !

I guess I didn't realize how popular they are, I've stayed at Del Rey, Presidente and Dunn , all with 2 weeks notice, no problem...

I have to imagine there's a reason you can get into those places on short notice. And I know the reason why the SL takes a little more planning. I booked my room for my return trip four months in advance. Maybe that's overkill, but like you, I wanted a quiet room. And I found another room suited better to me when I stayed there in March and asked for that specific room by name (all rooms are named there) when I made my reservations for the trip in October.

P.S. If you plan on going back and want to stay at the SL, check out the rooms in the clubhouse. It's off to the side down the hall behind the front desk. These may be what you are looking for considering noise and $$. Take a tour of the place and decide then what your criteria will allow.

Great choice in going with HLH...you will not be disappointed.

thanks for the tips guys, unfortunately my disorganized crew barely gets it together in time to even allow for 2 weeks notice, so I'll just keep trying and hopefully get lucky one of these times...

Dude two weeks in advance??? really? I know dudes who reserve like 8 months out. Superbowl, Halloween etc... need to be reserved a year or more out.

What sucks kind of (sorry Boyd) is that I think HLH will soon be the same way.

Yes, but the price of good service and good management is popularity. I remember the HLH pre-Boyd and although it was easy to get a room, there was no kitchen, very languid and bored chicas sitting/lying on the couches, and no happy hour festivities or promotions.
Now it is a happening place.
Soon we might have to book 18 months out to get specific rooms at both the SL and the HLH, which is bad for us last-minute guys.
