So I am newbie to this site and somewhat of a newbie to CR. I was there on a fishing trip 12 years ago when I was 26. Didn't have much cash but still stumbled into the best night of my young life. Now that I am a bit older and more experienced I am really looking forward to all San Jose night life has to offer. Here is my question. I have tried to reserve a room at SL from the 21st thru the 25th of May with no luck. I was able to find a deluxe room at the DR for my stay. I do enjoy staying at nice hotels but after a conversation with the reservation department at Presidente I was worried that I would not be able to bring girls up to my room. How rough are the accomadations at the DR? Maybe I will get a room at the Presidente and the DR. One for play and one for rest. Not worried about the dollars but worried about getting the full experience and being comfortable and well taken care of. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Why mess with two hotels? If the accommodations at the HDR or the chica policies at the Pres are a problem why not book a room somewhere else.

If as you say you are not worried about price but want the full experience, being comfortable and well taken care of then book a suite at the HLH.

In my opinion, the rooms at the HDR are more or less Motel 6 quality, unless you get one of the more expensive suites. The basic rooms are prison cells without windows in many cases. Also, the HDR charges a $10.00 per chica per ride up the elevator...this "guest fee" can add up very quickly. Yes, the Hotel del Rey is prostitution "ground zero," the action (with high- and low-tides) is 24/7. Bar prices are at U.S. levels (high for SJ).

The Presidente is trying, it seems to reduce/eliminate whoremonger business. They have a fairly strict dress code for hookers...no bare bellies, no short-shorts, no cleavage. A nun's habit works. Guests are limited to one girl per visit...kiss the idea of threesomes goodbye if you stay at the Pres. Luxury hotel for SJ, especially if you get one of the spa suites. Good restaurant/bar on premises (expensive). Casino (no working girls) on premises.

Have you thought of the Hotel la Amistad? They are a CRT V.I.P. sponsor (you'll get a good discount if you are a V.I.P. member of this website). The rooms were all recently renovated, as was the lobby area. Excellent breakfast included in room price, very close (1.5 blocks) to the Sportsmen's Lodge, a block from a pharmacy and two from a hospital, 5 quick blocks to New Fantasy massage.... and the staff and owner are great! I divide my visits between the SL and Amistad, although I like the Castillo as well; the Castillo doesn't offer quite as many amenities, but they do give substantial discounts for CRT V.I.P.s and especially if you pay cash.

On such short notice, I'd try to book into the Amistad. If they're full, consider the Castillo if you can lower your need for luxury a bit.

HTH. Be sure to read the Hotels section for more ideas and for other CRT V.I.P. sponsors, like the Hotel Freebird, Clarion Amon Plaza, Vesuvio, Dunn Inn, Hotel Little Havana.... Hey, now there's an idea. I wonder if you could get one of the suites on such short notice. Guests in the suites (not the regular rooms) can hire masseuses/personal care consultants for $25.00/hour! :D

Wherever you stay, be sure to introduce yourself around the SL bar during Happy Hour. You'll find lots of CRT brothers to swap stories, get information or to wing with you. Have fun!

B4 I would get a room at the DR AND the Presidente, I'd stay at the Sleep Inn and pay 25 chica fee. If your staying at the DR, the chica fee is 5000 colon. So we are only discussing the differences.

The Del Rey is not that bad. You can get one of the 6th floor rooms with a balcony. I have stayed there for several months b4. If the street noise is a big concern, ask for a room away from the street.

The Sleep Inn may be a good solution for you as well.

Have you checked the Amisted ?

Their website says $90 per night.

4 Nights: 360.00 (US Dollar)
*Estimated Tax: 46.80 (US Dollar)
Estimated Total: 406.80 (US Dollar)

The courtesy airport transportation is a $45.00 value but you may have to wait for "their" bus at the airport- a downside.
Hotel Alerts: Scheduled courtesty airport pick up from Juan Santa Maria Airport. The shuttle runs from 5AM-8PM.

I usually stay at the DR because im lazy and dont feel like walking back and forth or take taxi's everytime i wanna pop some chica at the DR. Yeah the chica fee is lame, but hey even a short cab ride will cost you some colones too. The rooms are crappy but hey i can live with it. Ive seen worse. SL is always booked up, and ive yet to get a room there because of it. Guess ill have to make reservations a year in advance

Lee, thanks for the link. I read every word. If I could only get a room on the 6th floor I would be cool with it. Regardless, since its my first time I feel I need to stay at DR.

Matt, Thanks for the discounted offer and the reply. The Amistad sounds like a fantastic place. Just not really the experience I am looking for.

Couldn't resist. Booked both for the weekend. DR for play and Presidente for R&R. Looks like a lovley hotel to call home. I just couldn't come up with a better solution. I will put some miles on the kicks traveling between. I could use a wingman for the weekend. Who wants to talk fly fishing and tag nothing but 10s??? Anyway looking forward to meeting other CRTrs.

Flyfishtheworld:

Not an unheard of situation. Longtime back when I first started going I would stay at the Holiday Inn and get a room at the DelRey to play in. Of course back then a room at the DelRey was under 50 bucks. Enjoy your trip. As long as you don't let the little things get in the way it's almost impossible to have a bad time.
