$55 a night is awesome. That place has big rooms and the location is a block from HLH and NF and a couple of blocks to SL.

Btw, they need to update their Poker page: https://costaricaticas.com/news.php?id=267

And $65 for the Jr Suite is a great price, with free breakfast and no chica fee. Quick, someone tell Iggy!

Wow, if I can get down to CR in the next couple of months, I'll have to think about this. The Amistad has some competition! :D Stayed there one trip over the 2007 Super Bowl, and last year when I spent a few days at ZB, I loved the Amon's breakfast buffet.

Proof again that it pays to be a CRT V.I.P. Wondering if I can get down there before Labor Day.... Another topic in the Hotels section talks about recent very low fares on Continental through Houston... might make an impromptu trip very feasible. :D Thanks Admin 1!

And the benefits just keep on comin'. :D

Dont worry working on our sept thru dec discounts. Will probably continue with tradition. Look for it to come out in the next couple of days.

it will be interesting to see how low prices will go with these times.

seems like hotels are becoming a little desperate.

Sportsmens is always full, we are up 82% over last year, del rey and castillo are as good or better as last year. Things in San jose are not that bad if you have a quality product. Location, location, location. If you look in the past posts we have always increased the discount for CRT members in the rainy season hardly an act of desperation.

what does a quality product have to do with lowering your prices even further??

it looks like you then fall into a comodity.. instead of making yourself different from the rest of the group. when there is pressure.. first thing would be to lower your prices.

sportsmens lodge never lowers the prices.. and they are not the cheapest in town but deliver a quality product.

what say you scotty

I agree with the previous poster about falling into the "Commodity Trap" and that to my limited knowledge, SL doesn't lower prices in normal times. Can't nobody claim normality these days. During the '30's every seller lowered prices and even then lots, from top-end to generic, went out of business. It takes a lot of thought and some imagination to lower your price points to just the right number and stay distinguishable from the competition. I think Brothers True Sportsman and Mkink are up to the task, both being good businessmen.

I agree and it was the chief reason I chose to stay at the Clarion on my visit 2 weeks ago (the other reason was the Amistad only had one room left w/out AC).

First time in the Jr. Suite there, I appreciated the extra room, basically the room is lengthened to allow a small sitting area with a couch and comfortable chair. I arranged the reservation by email through Nixon and got the June special rate. Check-in and check out at the reception desk was no problem (I paid cash), and of course no chica fee.

For some reason my minibar was locked until the last night when additional alcohol and treats appeared on top of the lockable fridge. No problem because I think the items are overpriced and I bring my own. It would have been nice to use the fridge though. The other negative and this was totally my fault was that in the rush to pack and checkout for the waiting cab w/ my wingman I didn't notice my 2 bottles of Centenario Rum mixed in w/ the minibars alcohol. Oh well, it was my donation to the bellman, as I mentioned it to him on the way into the cab. Besides, duty free still has a great deal on a 4 pack of the stuff.

The included breakfast buffet is still a great breakfast although they were not making omeletes to order anymore or at least while I was there.

The TV is an old CRT (cathode ray tube, not Costa Rica Tica) and the decor was a bit dated and could of used a deep cleaning and remodel. But I wasn't there to watch TV and the sheets were clean, the maid service was very good and the hotel staff was friendly.

Of course you can't beat the location if you plan on playing in a few of BKTuna's poker games as the Casino Paradiso is in the hotel. Also HLH is just 1 block away. I never had a problem getting a cab or using the hotel van to go wherever I needed to go.

The Clarion at these prices are a good option.

Senordas,
I am staying there on July 2-6 for the first time. I think you go the casino and pay for the 4 nights and they give you a reciept and then go to hotel lobby and they give you room key etc. ?? Is this correct? thanks for any information

Not anymore. After you've made the reservation through emailing Nixon, you just show up at reception as a normal hotel guest. They confirmed the rate, told me about the free breakfast, gave me my Key Card and hotel guest ID and a coupon for the gift shop. You never have to step in the casino at all, although I'm certain Nixon would appreciate a little casino play on your part. If you are still in doubt ask Nixon to confirm the current procedure when you make your reservation.

Guys,
We are receiving the casino rate, so it would be good to go in for a few minutes and play a little. They have blackjack, roulette, poker, and slots. I'm not sayin that you should sit there and wager hundreds of dollars, but a little gaming would be appreciated and would help keep the discount available.
