Tried a search, went back a whole bunch of pages, but got no love ![]() Been to SJO several times, but never stayed at HI, though recall some posters saying there was a chica fee when I was still frequenting Latin America. Well, my visits to Asia seem to be over for now, so it's back to CR, and since my finances are a little strained I wanted to use my points and save some cash by staying at HI. Any recommendations about the safety walking after dark (used to be recommended to take a cab to Del Rey) and the above question about chica fee. Back after a prolonged absence, EmailKid |

Personally, I would not take a cab from the Del Rey to the Holiday Inn, whether it be during the daytime or early evening. However, it would be something to consider if you were returning to the hotel late at night [opinions will vary widely on this]. I would walk AROUND Morazan Park, instead of through it at night....to avoid potential thieves, trannies, and MOTORCYCLE COPS, who might possibly try to "shake you down." Last I heard...there is a $25 chica fee. The restaurant on the 17th floor [I think] offers a fabulous view of San Jose....the food was good, as well. |

$25 ![]() I'm a daytime MP kind of guy, but sometimes like to bring back company in the evening as well. $25, that's just ugly ![]() Well, suppose there's always Hotel Asia for ST down the street IIRC. EmailKid |

Take your pick or stay some place without a chica fee. Clarion would be your best bet if you want a hotel with a name. Otherwise Sportsmens, Amistad, Castillo, or Presidente. |

I had the breakfast buffet at the HI on the first floor once. It was quite good but I thought $17 was pretty steep. The Del Rey breakfast is only about $10 and quite good. |

seriously, if you are certain of little darling action, why not just rent for the entire stay an extra room at one of the low rent tico joints like hotel asia, nuevo johnson or some of the other joints near the del rey. hell, you might even come to enjoy it. the chica fees and the rental fee combined should be less than one 25 dollar (or higher chica fee) at these other gringo style hotels. c'mon, the hotel asia or nuevo johnson must be 15 bucks a day, max, with chica fees of less than 5 bucks. and while they may be run down, they are cleaned daily, or more often for a small propina. personally, I would rather slam my needle dick with a twenty pound maul before paying an expensive chica fee. And, if I was forced to do so by the hotel management, I would leave them a Skid Mark that would go down in legendary lore. Japanese tourists and the like would probably flock just to see it and take pictures. *sniff* oh yeah, and an effing floater too. (in the sink) |

Maybe an admin can lock this thread before the chica fee hits cien ![]() Ya, I've used Asia before, may just have to go that route. Thanks to all for such quick replies, and still open to more suggestions. And I know it's been a few years, but recall paying $5 for buffet at Presidente when not staying there ... EmailKid |

A couple years ago, when the airlines cancelled my flight, they gave me a voucher for the night at Holiday Inn. At that time, it was a $50 chica fee - and that was more than 2 years ago. And I think I remember that someone mentioned that it was now a $70 chica fee. IMO, save your "points" for a Holiday Inn in some other destination, and look for cheaper accomodations in SJO for this upcoming trip. Preferably a hotel WITHOUT chica fees. Buena suerte, MG ![]() |

If you do stay there you might want to be careful with those long-distance calls too. https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24793 EmailKid if you can stay there for free you could do it and use a more upscale ST hotel like La Oficina (about 65-8500c/3hrs.) for your romps with the independents. Someone mentioned another ST hotel nearby recently, a little cheaper called Oasis maybe? |

I just can’t figure out why the Dunn Inn never makes the preferred list of hotels in discussion? Terrific People, Great Food, Epic Location, and if you’re a CRT VIP; ZERO Guest Fee, and a 10% Room Discount... |
