I almost always stay at the SL because I really like the staff there, but on my last two trips, whenever I eat at the Las Palmas (formerly the Jardin) restaurant, I walk past those Castillo rooms and think it's a nice-looking place. I searched the hotel forum and didn't really find a lot of recent information about Castillo. Do they have chica fees? Do they let girls work the bar there? Their website doesn't specifiy the difference between a "standard" and a "deluxe" room. Does anyone know the difference? |

The Castillo does Not have a chica fee. Here is their email, contact Darren he will respond info@hotelcastillo.biz here is the website http://www.hotelcastillo.biz/ I think the standard rooms don't have a refridge or aircondtioner and the deluxe do. |

Just stayed in the cheapest room they have for 5 nights. Never a problem, always helpfull, eggs and toast in the am and clean. No better deal out there for 40 a night. If you are a light sleeper Room 1 is not for you ask for the back. Really nice and relaxing will stay there again next month. |

hotelcastillo@racsa.co.cr tends to be a better email address. Too, faxes really do the job well: 011-506-222-32357 (from the USA) |

I stayed at the Castillo for several nights during my last visit to CR. The place is more than okay. Rooms nice if not fancy, breakfast is good though somewhat limited. Staff is very friendly and helpful. No problems with chicas at all. As stated above, best place right in that area for that price. |

Castillo is a great place to stay and very chica friendly. However, the restaurant/bar under different management attached to the hotel is not chica friendly. That said, it is a very comfortable homey quiet place and close to all that counts in SJ. |

I concur... Hotel Castillo is a very nice place and a great value. No chica fee. The staff are all top notch. Las Palmas is a nice place to eat and has a good bar but (unescorted) working girls are not allowed. |

I personally like the convenience of Sportsmans, but I did stay at Castillo last "Labor Day". The room was nice enough I guess. I stayed in a standard large room. It did not have a frige, but did have AC. The beds are not the most comfortable in the world, but not the worst either. They will move around the room though. They should probably figure out a way to bolt them down or something. Make it a game and see how far across the room you can go during a good session with a tica. I swear I almost made it in to the bathroom one night. I would say that Castillo is a very good bang for the buck kind of place. For the best deal stay at least 7 days, pay in cash (no tax), and use your CRT. I paid $400 even for 8 nights. |

Hotel Castillo is great. I have stayed there the last four years a total of about 25 days per year. The breakfast is good in my opinion: gallo pinto (rice and black beans) boiled eggs, bread, juices and fruit. Some rooms are quiet, and some in the front of the hotel could be noisy. Darren, the manager is great and very helpful. The hotel is clean in general. The rooms are not fancy, but a great value. It's two blocks from SL and one from NF. El Rey is just a few block away and I always feel safe walking during the day. I take a taxi at night and it is only 1,000 colones to El Rey. It is chica friendly. The girls must leave their ID at the reception. In addition the rooms have safety boxes where you can leave your passport and valuables. I have a 13 inch computer that fits perfectly in the safe. I am not familiar with the restaurant there, but some of the guests have told me that the food is pretty good. I feel very confortable there, and I would recommend this hotel without resevation! |

I knew that a netbook fits in the safe with room to spare, but I didn't know that a 13" job does. Darren measured the safe door for me before I came down last time and it worked out well. |

What the F? How do they know if a girl is a working girl or like a gf? I mean i've brought GF's into hotels and what not, and they are hot, but NOT working girls. How would they know? I mean they used to have working girls sitting in tthere at the bar, and hanging out in front of the front desk. |

The restaurant has undergone a name change and a change in management. Unescorted chicas are a no no at Las Palmas. They are trying to upscale the place. The food is good though and your chica is still welcomed at Castillo next door. |

I have brought my date to the resturant many times, It is not an issue. Do they want people solicating for other stuff in there place. No, just as we see signs here saying no soliciting. But I know Mike the new owner and I can tell you he would not put up with a guest of the Castillo or your guess being disrespected. And single women who work in the INS building eat there all the time. Single women staying at the Hemmingway eat there alone too. I have seen both. And I am sure a working girl on her time off would be welcome there. Just not to solicate. I even took Marta to lunch there. It has all right food. It is very convient if your are at the Castillo. The food is more upscale. Sportsman lodge has hot dogs and Gringo food. This resturant has Peruvan food. For a close good peruvan resturant I like soda Peru up the street on the right from Hotel little Havanna. Even tryed to take Marta there my last day. But Darren wouldn't let her off. But their hours are like 11am to 6pm. Las palmas is morning to like 11 or 12 pm. Stop by and see Mike the new owner at Las Palmas, He is from DC and knows everybody. Bill, Hillary and Sweet Handsome Daddy RED. |

Pictures seem somewhat limited on the Castillo Hotel website. I see what looks like a single and double room. Has anyone stayed in the Deluxe Rooms and whats the difference from a regular room? Also has anyone stayed in one of their rooms with a kitchen or in one of the Suite rooms? Just looking for a little more description and whether you like the other rooms. Everyone seems to recommend this place as best bang for you buck but it always seems to be on their singles. How do their suites and deluxe rooms stack up. |
