Okay Gents, So I booked a King room for my upcoming trip to SJ, and I was wondering if the room have a cd player? Last time I took my Ipod with my speakers when I stayed at the SL, but just curious as to anyone who has info on this ? As always, Thanks |

What you might consider is bringing a cheapo DVD player and wiring for the TV--best of both worlds that way, especially as I usually bring music performance DVDs. Assuming of course that you're not bringing a laptop computer. |

CD's? People still listen to those? Do what you did last time and bring your iPod setup. I did that last time, and every chica seemed to be amazed by it, like they had never seen anything like it before. |

ipod and a small set of speakers works perfect. i have seen some really interesting speaker setups in SJ that i have not seen in the US. light and compact. |

Couldn’t you just hook up the ipod directly to the TV av connectors and use the TV speakers? See you nearest computer or electronics store for the connectors. This is how I use to do it for my MP3 player. Do not know if the ipod have the same connectors. |

Brother CLN20 AKA NewGen Brudder--When Ipods approach 30% of CD fidelity and dynamic quality I might (I emphasize "might") consider them a legitimate sound source. "Dynamic quality" is defined as the difference between the softest sounds and the loudest sounds you can hear, usually measured in dB's, a logarithmic measurement (q.v). There just is NO comparison--at least for those of us that really enjoy music as opposed to audio anaesthetics. Back to you, Chet. |

Back to you, Chet. Jazz, Its the new wave my friend. I kinda look at CD's like I look at a person in line writing a check. The music sounds the same to me, and I dont have to drag around all my fave CD's, thats a lot of extra weight. |

Yes, I'm in the same school as JazzboCR. The ONLY value I have found with an iPod or mp3 like device is it's simply more portable than the cd player, particularly when one considers lugging around the cd's and good set of headphones. However, for home listening, the CD is where it's at.....of course after a well kept LP.....I've got a ton of recordings that just aren't available in mp3 or CD format.....so the turntable still rules.....

Yes, the iPod takes a 1/8" stereo male plug (some call it a 3.5mm stereo plug). Just get a patch cable that has a 1/8" stereo male plug on one end and terminates on the other end with two RCA male plugs. Put the 1/8" into the ipod and the RCA plugs into the TV. Be certain the TV is set to the A/V setting. Sounds pretty tinny....but it works. I travel with cheap, 1998 Creative Labs computer desk top speakers which are "powered" and have a little bit of kick....and the movies playing out of the laptop (or the music) do sound better than decent. It's hard to get these cheapo desk top speakers anymore other than at garage sales or Ebay or other used places. Most people think they're junk.... |

I'm still a CD person too, but if you want them to be more portable you don't have to settle for MP3's. Rip them to your computer as .WAV files, which is a lossless PCM format. They take up a lot more space, but that is what laptops are for.

And, I defy anyone in a blind listening test to distinguish between CD audio and the same material from a high bitrate mp3. Unless one has an extremely accurate ear, you'll notice no difference whatsoever when listening through speakers, between PCM quality and a 256 kbit mp3. Headphones of course are a different story. Here's another idea. Buy an inexpensive CD player. Make mixed music CDs, then just leave the whole lot behind with a favorite chica when you leave CR. BTW, some boom boxes can also play discs of mp3's, meaning you'll haul fewer discs.
