Haven't stayed there myself or checked it out but these reviews might help: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g309293-d301448-r26933655 Mostly 4-5 out of 5 stars, but got one 1 star review by someone who had their laptop stolen while it was being kept by the front desk and who didn't like the hotel mgmt's response to the incident. Some other quotes pertaining more directly to "comfort" issues: "... It seems like there is a very wide range of types and qualities of rooms. The first two days I stayed there with a couple of other people in a "standard double" that was not particularly impressive. It was OK, but the walls were kind of thin, the mattress quality wasn't fantastic, and it was a little dreary. The next three days they were booked and had to move me to the a more expensive "superior" room (there's also a middle level of "standard lux"). This room was the complete opposite. it was huge with high wood beamed ceilings, plaster walls, tile floors, a kitchenette area, a nice bright blue tiled bar area, etc. It's not clear that all of the rooms had such a contrast. I peeked into a few of the rooms that I think were probably the cheapest level but had a certain charm. They were small rooms with one or two single beds and a shared bathroom but seemed pleasant enough. ..." and this: "... The hotel is beautifully decorated and has some nice mosaics too. It is back off the road so it was nice and quiet. There is no air conditioning, but there are ceiling fans. They have tile floors. Beds were firm. Hot water in showers but not in sinks. Breakfast was provided with the room. There was lots of fruit, cheese, eggs and toast. ..." |

Now Brother Steven1 didn't ask and TA is not a place to go for answers but...as a mongering hideaway? What's the scoop? Yea or nay? Guest fees? Dark looks from the other patrons? Or the front desk? Always looking for another venue good for us'ns. |

Here is the deal about this hotel and my curiosity about it: It's near the University of Costa Rica; It's an area I know nothing about and won't until I stay around it; and.....drum roll......THEY ARE NEGOTIATING PRICES...or did with me....all via email. Thanks for the data Pro, as usual. I was very dumb not to check 'em out on TripAdvisor.....duh.... A university I am loosely affiliated with uses that joint for it's 12 day "summer course" which will net you 3 academic credits. Now the cost of the "program" from the university is absurd. However, since I am going to be in CR at the same time the program is going to be there, I thought it would be a hoot to show up and "participate" in my ever so low key style!!! ![]() Seems like it might be plan....I rather suspect it is NOT chica friendly....although IF I stay, I'll be certain to give it the 'ole college try....it has a swimming pool and "free" parking.....and I was thinking about having an AVIS car for one week of this upcoming trip to explore the nether reaches outside of San Jose.....then again, I may just do as I usually do.....I'm a pretty lazy boy..... |
