Well everyone I have contacted DOSGRINGOS the sponsor for the forum and others that were recommened for transport in CR. They all seem to be about the same. Please let me know if this is a good deal. This is the email that I sent and got back from Henry from Dosgringos.

June 5th.
> 1 12noon pick us up at airport and drop off at del ray $ 35
> 2 you can leave but you have to hold our luggage for the afternoon. $ n/c
> 3 around 5pm bring us from del ray and drop us off at our condo in jaco $ 123.25
>
> June 12th
> Pick us up from jaco and drop us off at del ray $ 123.25

> June 13th
> Pick us up from delray and drop us off at the airport. $ 35

the total is $ 316.00 with the CRT discount. if you book all at once we can do an even $ 300.00
looking forward to seeing your booking ty....

this rate > $ 123.25 comes from, the standard rate for 2 people from SJO to Jaco is $105 add $ 20 for the 2 additonal passengers plus $ 20 for a downtown san jose pickup is $145 minus the CRT 15% site-wide discount brings it down to the $ 123.25 amount

I also got email back from Orlando Fernandez from someone else on the board and he gave me 300 flat but has a 16 passeger van which means it might be a little more comfortable escpecially if we have 4 or maybe even 6 total.

Please let me know if you think it is a good deal. I plan to pay pretty soon atleast if i decide to got with dosgringos.

Thanks

Your question to the Board and Henry DosGringo's message mentioned a CRT Discount but I see no avatar under your screenname, so how are you gonna get the discount? Is one in the party a CRT Brother or am I missing something? Also up to 6 people in a van for only the 2 hour trip to Jaco doesn't seem cramped to me but then I'm a smaller guy. The price seems fair to me. Otherwise I have no opinion on either option, the prices being equal.

I am in the process of budgeting for my membership. I am trying to get everyone to chip in for 100 especially if we are going to get discounts in CR for everyone. If I book with Henry I definetly will be a member. Henrys email said that if it is 6 it is going to be cramped.

Thanks

Dos gringos are a good bet in my book
The price is more than a taxi yes But they wait around and watch my bag while I go upstairs in the airport to money excange I also give them a shopping list so I can load up my fridge at the hotel beer mixers snacks etc. These guys are trying to make a go if things and are a sponser of CRT. I was one of the first to bash Dos Gringos about the price And ended up as a return customer This is just MHO and have not used them for anything but airport rides

Is an airport taxi the same price for 4 with a van, that it is for 2 with a car? Anyone know for sure?

Also an airport taxi won't watch their luggage all day, of course they could ask the Del Rey to store their luggage and avoid that need.

CRT discounts are for he VIP member not for everyone in his party.

$35.00 to take you from the airport to the HDR seems a bit on the high side but it does include holding your luggage for a couple of hours which might explain the price except they also quoted you $35.00 to pick you up at the HDR and take you to the airport when you leave. As Orange said an airport taxi or red cab would be about $20.00.

If you are only going to be at the HDR for a couple of hours on the day you arrive why are you even going there rather then just go direct to Jaco?

Why would they charge you extra for a downtown pick up? Since the charge is the same from Jaco to the HDR they also charging you for a downtown drop off plus an additional charge for more then 2 passengers which, to my way of thinking, is just a BS extra charge. Seems like they have adopted the Spirit airlines business model.

Your trip is not until June which is the "green season" (rain) plus tourism is way off. I would do a lot more research before committing to anyone.

We already rented a condo in JACO before I found out about SJ and the mongering difference! I discovered the board after I rented the room. Needless to say next time I go back to CR I might no venture out of SJ! We just wanted to sample some before we go to JACO and just bite the bullet and waste a night of condo and come back a night early to stay in SJ.

The price for airport pick up of 25 I think per Henry is just for 2 people not for 4. I did not know that HDR will hold my luggage. If that is the case I might just rent a car and park at HDR and leave my luggage there or in the trunk of a sedan.

Still early and just pricing it out! Thanks for all of the continued help!

I was taking the overall price for 4, trips to and from jaco, and the luggage watching...

If we tear apart each individual part, yeah, each one is high...

taxi to and from HDR and airport: ~20-25

Taxi to Jaco: 100-125, depending...
same on return

watching bags... you can have HDR watch them for you behind the desk...

HOWEVER, these guys haven't been here before, and having someone basically hold their hands is worth the extra price...

IMHO...

Im feeling the same way. I will have to get the money up front from everyone including membership and also the ride. Going to get vote on whether to rent the car, get Henry, or try to haggle with Orlando and the other offers I got back in email.

Thanks
Bob

Taxi from the airport to Hotel LaAmistad was $22 with the meter on. Fairly new Toyota Corolla. 3/19/09

Do NOT leave valuables anywhere in your car if it's going to be out of your direct sight. Even then, it's chancy unless you have nothing between you and the car (like a plate glass window even). I've had no personal bad experience but plenty of others have reported on this. Some Costa Ricans are sneaky thieves par excellence. It's just a dumb thing to do--explore all alternatives.

Hank,

Perhaps I'm wasn't clear. I know what it has cost me when I take a taxi from the airport to the Amistad, whether by car or van when I've been solo. My question is, if there are so many of us that it necessitates a van instead of car is there a premium on the fare?

Before the airport cabs used meters the cost of a van was only a couple of dollars higher then a sedan. Have not heard if there is a price difference now that the use a meter.
