Starting yesterday, Spirit will now charge a $9.80 fee for each roundtrip ticket purchased at locations other than the ticket counters at the airport (i.e. on their website or by phone). |

See, now this policy just makes no sense at all. The whole point of Internet/ phone sales is to aggregate the most amount of sales with the fewest # of people responding. What are the sales counter folk gonna do between customers? Work as baggage handlers? Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!! But then they've got folks so used to these other methods and the sales counters are most likely at the airports (a long drive), that it will work> I'm a Spirit loyalist butt AA out of Philly is looking better and better. |

Yeah, that a gouge Allegiant Air, which runs many flights in & out of Vegas to secondary markets has been charging for years. Their fee is $13.50, & they have the audacity to call it a convenience fee. Convenient for whom? It sure isn't very convenient for me to drive to the airport to buy a ticket to save the $13.50 so I have to pay it. Same business model as Spirit, cheap advertised fare, then hit you with countless extras!!! |

You have to be kidding me? I guess since you kind of need to have a representitive at the airport, it only makes sense to make sure they are constantly doing something - so come up with a non sense fee for online bookings forcing everyone to the airport! Geeee, what do they come up with next? 20$ for checking in to early. |

I believe if you net-cost it out these ultra-low-cost ailines are still significantly cheaper, and we Americans insisted that cost was everything so this is what we get--low advertised rates with those slimy fees snuck in by the backdoor. Remember that old saying, "Be careful what you ask for 'cuz you just might get it."? |

Yeah but I think they took it alot further then what most people expected. Im all for the pillow and blanket charging as I hate the damn things on my seat, and sure if you want to charge for food go for it, because we all know the airlines that offer it for free are incorporating the costs into the tickets. But charging for washrooms? Not even free water? Ryanair is in a league of its own. The company publicly acknowledges customer service comes second. |

Ok so if you were considering the following two ways to get to Cartegena which would you choose? BOS to MIA on American then MIA to CTG on Avianca $525 or Boston to FLL and FLL to CTG on Spirit $390 (with a tight connection) bag fees would be more but wouldn't check bags. I've used Spirit and found them to have no customer service skills but generally they get you there. I've never flown Avianca but heard all bad things about them including their being the only airline to actually crash because the forgot to fill up on gas. Could also consider COPA through NYC to PTY for more money but might also miss the storms in FL in the fall? Any thoughts - thanks |

Spirit totally sucks as an airline. I am so glad jet blue now has flights from my hometown to San Jose. It is cheaper and they dont charge for a checked bag, they give a snack, free movies and the bags are promptly unpacked at the destinaton. |

They probably figure it's more expensive for most people to drive to and from the airport and pay for parking while there. So it's just another GOTCHA! fee. ![]() |
