In San Jose, " taking a dip " has an entirely different meeting. |

Most hotels don't have a pool because it's cold. Ok not cold compared to Montreal but at 4000' elev. swimming is not a big priority, head to the beach for pool and getting a tan. |

I always thought a bar and a pool a la The Clevelander would be cool for daytime fun. Imagine a party spot in SJ with a bar and a pool? Hell, even in Jaco too. Jaco is so boring in the day if you are not fishing or adventure-touring. I am always surprised this concept hasn't happened there yet. PURA VIDA! |

Gotta agree with Paco, the couple hotels with pools I have been to, the water was too cold to get in and they weren't chica friendly ![]() |

I wouldn't normally recommend this hotel, but since you are looking for a pool and you can get a room for $57.50 right now you might want to consider the Crown Plaza Corobici (formery a Sol Melia hotel the Tryp Corobici) The plusses: The remodel was just completed. Includes a buffet breakfast. Good price. The $57.50 includes tax (you'll actually use points) Has a pool. The negatives: Not centrally located, it's on the edge of downtown next to Sabana Park. I don't know what the chica guest policy is but it's unlikely to be good. To get this rate (rooms are usually over $100 a night) you'll need to use priority club points. You can purchase points for $11.50 per 1,000 points. It would normally take 20,000 points to redeem at this hotel, but right now this hotel is a "pointbreak" hotel and you'll only need 5,000 per night. This deal is available for bookings until the end of May. BTW, I've never stayed here and since a pool in San Jose is not important to me I probably never will. |

The fitness center is nice.....has a casino.....buffet breakfast is abundant and good......good location, out of The Gulch but close enough......Now......for the bad part........ Chica fee.......$50.00.....unless you register at check in. Well, I'm sure they would have looked at me funny if I registered 10 "novias"......and yeah, I had to suck up and pay it. I partied all night with the chica, we got back late, so WTF, I bit the bullet. Sucky part was, she was a TLN but I had to get up in 2 hours for a business meeting. Needless to say, I did not sleep much and I was wiped the next 2 days over that night. Hell, even stayed in 1 night sans chicas. I should have never gone out but I just arrived that day and couldn't resist! Lesson learned! Another bad thing......and I hate hotels that do this.....$10/day Wifi. And don't use the taxis in front of the hotel. Walk out a little bit for a non hotel taxista and ask for "La MAria." All else considered, the place is OK. Especially if you want to be out of The Gulch or need to keep business "appearances." |

BTW, if you want to keep business appearances while being close to the action, the presidente, sleep inn, and holiday inn all work... chica fees suck, but the location can't be beat... |

No chica fee at the Prez. I was refering to sleep inn and HI, sorry... I HONESTLY have never taken a chica to Presidente... I've only stayed there twice, and it was with my gf... After the way they treated her there, I'll never stay there again though... |

QBF, I have been told by local business Ticos that if you are staying anywhere downtown(as the Pres. is amongst my favorite hotels) they know what you are up to. Some don't care but others don't like it...and if you are doing business with them I feel it is best to avoid the issue. Many don't care for the goings on downtown. So I'm told. On another note, I stopped in the Pres. and it seems as they are really trying to cater to only Ticos. I saw very few gringos staying there or even hanging at the bar. And that was a Friday night. Last report was that chica fee at the HI was now $70.00 ![]() Footnote to satisfy Phoenix Rising: I have never stayed at the HI in San Jose so perhaps that disqualifies the information posted. ![]() |
