Post subject: | Air Fare Thoughts ?????? |
Started pricing air fare from MSP- SJO for March 09 and with out flying all around the US the best price was running $860 plus (MSP-IAH-SJO---CONTINETAL ). That’s 100- 150 more then when oil was at it peak. I understand the less flights available ( half of prior trip and that mess up my plans big time), but not really the high price, its now more then double from a month ago, with OIL going down, I was hoping for some what lower air then last summer . Are the flights going half full and they are making it up with the ones going? Are they trying to make up all the lost money last year in a few months this year?? Thoughts any why and if they come down by March. Was planning on $500-600. As I tried other combinations of Airports/ airlines and nothing works with out sleeping in the airport for a night to save 100 to 200 bucks. Funny but the flights to BKK or AMS and even Prague are staying near the same as last year, but with less flights. |

Hey XM, Looks like there are flights available to MIA from MSP for about $250, you can then catch a flight on AA for a little over $200 to SJO. |

I never see any great deals for MSP-SJO...like you see out of Chicago or other places. I have checked often enough as MSP and ORD are an equal distance from my house. |

In september i had a great deal on continental from MSP to SJO, $335. It was terrific. Didn't last long, but they do happen on occasion. Typically it's around $600. |

Checked the MSp-MIA-SJO route, but need to spend a day waiting in the airport to save 100 bucks or so, and I have a real hard time paying to drive on bad roads on my way to ORD and even then I do not save much after a 8 hour drive. I just wondering why with with oil way down they seem to charging rates higher then when oil was at its peak? Also what get me, it almost cheaper to go from MSP-IAH-SJO, then for IAH-SJO.. One varation had me going MSP-MIA-Memphis-IAH SJO for the same price, But what gets me its the same flight to IAH to SJO as a straight line south flight .. Any ways I hoping that price on this route may drop after new year and then Even then I doubt it will raise any more, so i hold off on the tickects but make hotel and medical reservations in the next few weeks |

I doubt you will find an airline flying anywhere in the US that has increased flight numbers in the past year. Most have cut considerably. Less planes flying the same routes. Demand if anything has increased dramatically every year. They really have no reason to cut costs. Tons of deals still exist, you just have to look for them. |

I have found that when you get inside about 60 days from your proposed trip dates, fares seem to drop a bit. In the past, it seemed like planning way ahead would net the best results. When you get to around 30 days out, the hotwire and priceline rates start to get good . |

I've noticed the same phenomenon. However, it appears as though, for the time being, that the airlines are keeping the fares high right now. This could be due to all of the shoppers looking for holiday fares. I would expect the fares to begin falling after the holidays. There does not seem to be any advantage to booking any more than one or two months out unless you want to reserve a favorite seat! |
