Post subject: | Sansa/Nature Air Unlimited Passes??? |
I could have sworn that Sansa has had a reasonably priced weekly pass in the past. Unlimited flights within CR over a 3, 5 or 7 day period (cannot remember) for a few hundred dollars. I called Sansa today and got absolutely no help (they hung up on me after a couple of minutes trying to explain something that they were not familiar with). Does anyone know if there is a 3 or 5 day unlimited flight pass available in CR? |

I did it 2x on Sansa, last time 2 years ago, but that time you had to have flown into CR on TACA Air to get it. I think they were calling it Air Pass or Sky Pass. It was like $225 a week and it worked like a charm. I'd fly to Quepos in the am, beach it all day, catch the 3:30 back and play all night at the DR. (Not much action at any of the beach towns). It used to be one of the links on Sansa website in their special offers and promotions link, but I don't see it now. Maybe call TACA, they own Sansa and of course speak english, or go to the main Sansa office on Paseo Colon, usually a little more biz like then they are on the phone. Bring a Spanish speaker just in case. |

In keeping with the title of this topic, I thought that Nature Air had some kind of program also. I emailed them on this (couldn't find it on their Website)--so far no answer but try them yourself. I also dimly remember a thread somewhere that unless you use such a program frequently/ daily it really didn't benefit you. Somebody want to run the numbers and chime in on this? |

It was like $200-250 so you would have to fly more than 5 times to make it work. I flew 14 times so it was great. My hunch is they aren't offering it anymore. |

appreciate all the help on this one. i was hoping to find something that i had missed. my recollection is that it was less than $300 for 5-7 days which would have been a great deal. oh well, i will go back to plan 'a' which is to rent a car, base out of sjo, and do a couple of overnight side trips. never made it to jaco so might try it this time around, etc. any and all suggestions welcome. it is a five day weekend - cr is such a beautiful country and sj is such a predictable city. if only i could find that elusive blend of cr beach/mountain beauty combined with the blue marlin/etc. beauty. frankly does not seem like it should be so damn difficult but it has been a challenge for me. |

Think of what you want to do most--if Air Pass is no longer available, I'd still fly as much as I could, if money is not an issue. Rent cars are great once you get to your destination, driving in those mountains is not--never do it if you can't be on the downside of either side before 6:00-7pm, perennial night time in CR. I did that dumb mistake once leaving Quepos too late to go back to SJ, hit the mountains after dark and was white knuckled the whole time. Usually a 3-4 hr trip was 6.5, had to drive so slow just to make sure I wasn't going over the side, the typical fog not helping. It's also a little crazy during daylight--people don't respect double yellow lines and get impatient behind a big truck going 10 mph uphill and so they pass in dangerous situations. So I guess my point is fly and rent a car at the various beach towns--and rent from their US websites--cheaper; and then you can get their local tel #'s and they will always meet you at the local airport, and bring you back w/ a little propina. 25 minute flight vs 3-5hr driving depending on which beach you are going to is a no brainer to me, especially when time is a factor during a 5 day trip. No flights to Jaco but IMHO, that's a crummy beach--fly to Quepos and enjoy a world class beach at Manuel Antonio a few miles a way. From Quepos, you can also drive to Jaco if you want to monger at a few of the joints there, about a one hr drive, but all flat land on a direct good road; or fly Quepos & then drive to Jaco and stay there, or go back and forth, Quepos beach day, Jaco nite, all just a thought. You know you will have fun in CR regardless of what you choose. Dan. |

http://www.flysansa.com/air_pass.html see if that link is of any use for you. I did not explore it.....but it looks like it's still "good". Also, http://www.queposfishing.com/flights.htm appears to be of some value. Seek and yee shall find....call the phone numbers if need be.... |

Now if one airline or the other offered floatplane service to Bocas del Toro... A lad can dream, can't he? |
