Post subject:  Hotel Castillo Email Issues

I think that some internet providers here in the USA have blocked Castillo's provider, racsa.co.cr . Are other's getting email from that domain.....Amistad uses it too....I believe it's the only game in town for high speed.

I had been waiting to hear from Darren since Sept. 15 and finally phoned and discovered he had indeed been responding....but my provider (sbcglobal.net or att.net) was rejecting it. I gave him a gmail.com and that's doing just fine.

Anyway....just a head's up....for what it's worth.....

I have had server issues with Castillo too. It is better to call Darren. Just remember to add an aditional 2 after the area code to the seven digit number on their web site.

Over the years RACSA has been flagged by some internet service providers as an origination point for spam so they block anything that shows RACSA as the ISP.

RACSA has claimed, in the past, they they have eliminated the problem and most ISP's no longer block their traffic. Guess there are still some that do block them.

One would think that they would have updated their website since the extra digit came on in May so their customers could reach them. MUY TICO!

The phone number on the website HAS been updated. It is 100% correct as is the fax line. http://www.hotelcastillo.biz/

It was updated shortly after the changes went down in CR

well....maybe MUY GRINGO is better because the Castillo web site has been updated from way back.

The issue here, now, is the email carrier on the Costa Rica side that is listed on numerous Black Lists and those listings are seemingly growing. Now, that would be MUY TICO.....

Glad to know that the website has been undated. When I checked in August for my Sept trip it had not been updated. Considering web issues, Calling is always a good bet.

After many, many hours going over this and that with idiots on the "support" side of ATT DSL, I have learned there IS a block on the Hotel Castillo mail server IP. However, at least for ATT and derivatives, it's being removed. I copy and paste from the powers that be:

"RBL: RBLMX - Block of MX Servers IP: 196.40.31.26 State: Blocked Expires: Never Class: UNDEFINED Reply Text: Blocked for abuse. Please contact the administrator of your ISP or sending mailservice. Number of Times Blocked: 1 History: 2008/09/27-07:25 [spam-mx1] mxmcia: Sent 100 recipients with 95% spam
This block has been removed please allow 24 hours for removal."

I hope Castillo's computer guy can make use of the data I have sent him. To be on the safe side, I'm using gmail.com or something like it to contact Hotel Castillo from hence forth. Darren is a great guy and doesn't need headaches like this.....
