Hi, new to the forum. Was wondering what the deal is in puntarenas city? What are the good bars? Also, can you like rent rooms for just for the day and are you allowed to bring your guest back? How much would the room cost and how much should i expect to pay for the girl? thanks

I went on a boat trip to the Isla Tortugas from Puntarenas. It was cool to see the boats taking the cars across the Gulf of Nicoya.

It is a fairly large "safe looking" town. However, it did not look like there were many gringos other than those by the port. If you know some Spanish, you might easily be able to find the tico places and an inexpensive good time. It's great to see people leave the gulch and explore the country.

Puntarenas is a shithole. I have passed thru many times, hit 3 different chica bars on same street one night-very cheap $15 to $20, taken the ferry, seen a Don Omar concert, but could not bring myself to stay overnight there as I was traveling down the coast on a trip last year. The city and beaches are dirty and dangerous with not much to do there from my observations.
Of course, YMMV

It is a dingy town and economically depressed. That said, the catamaran trip on the Manta Raya to Isla de las tortugas is a world class day by any measure.

Let me help you understand the reponse to your question.

Dingy= low rent= no chance of banging a hot chick but there are still fat broads to be had.

Shithole=dirty town very industrial because it is a fishing port.

Did not see many working chicas there. Saw a major fight, broken bottles, etc. Had a pick pocket incident. They didn't seem too keen on gringos there, and the hotels were overpriced. I will not go their again. Oh, and didn't score a regular chica there either.

The bars everyone goes to is called Happy Days, and another one right across the street from it. Sorry, I forgot the name. IF YOU GO and someone bumps into you, grab your pocket. The scam is: in a crowded bar someone will pass by you very closely, maybe you will lift your hands in the air to let him go by, or someone(an accomplice) will box you in from behind, then a smoothe operator will snatch your wallet. You don't feel it b/c you are being bumped into or patted by them as they "pass by." Be careful and don't get too drunk there. That being said, it was safe to walk at any time at night. The problem was in or just outside the bars.

I don't think you could find a girl that would pass a daylight visual inspection and to to a cheap day time room. I think there are better options than Puntarenas in general.

DO NOT GO TO PUNTARENAS. All guide books for Puntarenas say the city is not safe after dark in any area. It is a rusty and polluted city full of desperate people and the pros are very ugly.

Saw a shitty bar called Fortune. Definitely working girls. Shitty town, ugly girls. I'd guess they were cheap... Good Luck
