What would I expect to pay ?

Four Adults by van to Arenal/Fortuna resort.
Staying only overnight. Returning next day.
Is it better to hire a driver or use something like interbus.

Thanks in advance

I used interbus when I went to CR in April. Interbus is small..like a minivan..well air conditioned, CLEAN, and professional. They even take a break or two midway to stretch your legs/bathroom/snacks. The van can hold about 7 ppl. Tourists use interbus so its relatively safe. You'll like it.

Depends on what you want out of the trip.

If it is 4 guys or 2 couples who just want to get to the resort than Interbus is the best choice.

If it is 4 guys or 2 couples who want to do some sightseeing on the way, bring some liquid refreshment to savor on the journey, play a little on the journey, etc. then a private driver with a van is the better choice.

Interbus only makes sense if it's for 1 or 2 people max. Anything more, and you'll pay more than a private driver/taxi would charge.

Even the airport.... it's $7/person. Any more than 2 people are you're over $20, that's what a taxi costs.

For 4 people, I would go with the private driver with a van. Look at the dependable drivers thread. Start from the back as the list is old and the first few pages are 2-3 years old.

Because it is only one night do I have to pay for the drivers logging?

You have to contact a couple or so drivers and negotiate your deal. If it is less expensive to have them return to San Jose and come back the next day to pick you up or to pay for them to stay over. Remember they have places to stay that are less luxurious and less cost then where you are going to stay.
