Check this out! I totally believe the Chicago fare. I priced it before and also from LA and New York but people in Houston (Continental's hub) totally get hosed even though it is a lot closer and a direct flight. The only explanation I can come up with is because the Petro-chemical industry is so strong there in oil they really try and stick it to you if you live there?...

Continental has no competition in Houston. That is why the fares are so high.

My two cents and I'm likely overpaid.

Chicago (ORD) is great for flights and prices. In the last year I've booked three flights (all 5 to 7 hours) ORD to SJO. After taxes, $175.00 on Spirit, $263.00 on Delta and for next month $335.00 on Continental.

Looks like I should have held out longer. Also I get great flights and prices to Thailand from ORD.

For the rest of the story;

ORD does have a really crappy record for late and cancelled flights. Spirit was so late I had to spend a night at a $49.00 Airport hotel. Parking also sucks big time. I now take a two hour bus ride to avoid it.

I just priced 2 tickets EWR-SJO for Nov. $288 + taxes each, total is $698. Taca is at $660 EACH. Tough choice. :lol:

Can you check-in online for CO international flights? Does that save time at the airport?

You can if you're a member of their ff club, onepass, & you have had your passport checked at the airport by a co representative for validity on a previous journey

I don't know but here's a quote from my receipt under "International eTicket Travel Reminders:

"Bring this eTicket Receipt along with photo identification, proof of citizenship, passport and/or visa to the ticket lobby for check-in."
